Help for newbie needed !!!

so far no one has asked directly but what do you want to do with the dslr system.....

whether you want to do portrait, landscape, macro, wildlife.....some cameras are better at certain task then others.

Hi Hi,

I recommend you to get a Canon 500/550 with a 18~200/ 270mm lens. Spend a bit more and you will save yourself some long term inconvenience... presuming that you are a starter...

Pentax is good. Give Sony a miss unless you plan to use Carl Zeiss lens in the future.

Cheers!

Can you tell which is taken with the Sony A330 and Canon 500? Both at ISO 400.

i would tend to think that canon tends to be warm, so left one would be canon. however, i went to play with the comparison page like you suggested, it is the other way round! otherwise obviously, at such small sizes you won't tell a real difference.

as much as yes , most of the use of a dslr will extend to only online postings.. there is absolutely nothing wrong in demanding higher IQ. else we would all be content with using first generation dslrs. :bsmilie:

if you do a zoomed in close up of the images, you would easily see that the 500d details are not that much different from the sony's output.

now if you change that to the 550d though, you will easily, easily see that there is much more detail captured by the 550d compared to both the 500d AND alpha 330.

Go and test both these camera out, don't worry about the range of lenses because the key lenses are available from both manufacturer.

Make sure you like the feel and looks; it's very personal.

check out the price guides....

you can use back pentax lenses made as far back as 30 years ago although a majority will be manual focusing. Sony bought over Konica Minolta so the same can be said about them too.

some lenses pentax dont make like the popular 70-200 2.8 which for pentax currently is either the 60-250 f4 or the 50-135 f2.8 and if you are looking at super long range like 500mm, third party is only choice.

So far, the main attraction of pentax is the range of pancake style lens.

So what if Pentax has a lesser range of lenses? Are you gonna collect all the DA and FA limiteds? No right...

For Pentax lenses, check the price guide.

If focus points are the same, then the K-x noise control owns A330 hands down:thumbsup:

anyway, I tried my friend's Kx...nice small cam that packs with alot of features... the only thing I didn't reli like during my 10min usage(note my short experience) was the inability to tell which AF point I was using through the viewfinder...;p

does it matter?....from my experience, almost all the photgraphers i know aim centre because whatever camera it is, usually centre has the best sensor for lack of a proper term.

Haha...nope...but just trying to find out incase wanna get new lens...

Its amazing how Sony.. sensor provider not look closely into their image processing engine. Haiz... did a studio comparison of the A900 vs D700... The noise at ISO 400 starts to emerge for the Sony Camera. Though no big deal about noise.

To TS.. the future is endless. I started with MF film cam (Seagull, Contax, FM2) now.... I have 15 lens (10-~500mm), 3 bodies, 3 flashes, 3 tripod/ flash stands.....

There will be more to come... :-}

Cheers!
