looking for a heart rate monitor. the type u wear a strap with a sensor around your chest and read the HR from a wristwatch while u run.

any1 with experience using such things?
saw 1 at OSIM selling for $149, its the cheapest i found but its a no-name brand, not OSIM brand.
havent looked at the Timex and Polar ones yet...

any1 using, pls advice...
thanks

go get polar.

they have probably the longest number of years doing ECG-linked stuff :)

Just posted the same topic over here a few weeks back.

Just FYI, I was comparing a Suunto T6 and a Polar. Finally I got the Polar S625X with the chest strap thing and the foot pod.

The result was that I started running more every week just to see the graphs, etc.

Eventually it depends on what you're looking for in a HRM. IF you're interested to know more, PM me. I've just gone thru the same thing and might be able to answer some of your questions on HRMs.

btw, the main thing behind polar is NOT the hrm itself only; but the accompanying software.

The polar strap itself only emits radio frequency
and u need a receiving end.

eg. watch or Radio frequency device

A timex watch ITSELF can already pick up your HR from the wrist and tell you the reading.
correct me if I am wrong

Yea, thats right.

The basic pieces are the chest strap and the watch.
Some of the watches do pick up HB readings as well, but i heard
that the chest straps are more accurate.

The chest strap transmits and the watch records the heart beat and helps you
attain your optimal heart rate for your exercise session.

If you want to go further, you should check out if the device allows you
upload the session details to your pc to further analyse the readings so that
you can improve on workouts.

What im not sure about is if you need a physical IR reader to bring this session data back
to the PC.

can get a sigma one also... one of the better euopean brands and its very reliable. Very accurate and reliable.

www.sigmasport.com

I have a PC 1600 (16 different functions!!) and it kicks ass! Seldom use liao and I am getting heavier n heavier. it tells you the average heart rate, max rate, recovery time.. you can even set time for traingin zone heart rate...very versatile!

anyway.. go take a look... sold in some good bicycle shops.. you can pm me if you need more info..

I had a nike HRM. The chest strap spoil after a year....:(

And Call Nike Singapore and they say another local distributor bring in the HRM, so not service by them.

So till now a white elephant sitting at home:(

Try and borrow a polar strap (with the transmitter of course). My guess is that everyone licenses polar's tech. Just a guess. I was running in the gym with my polar the other day and the threadmill (certainly not made by polar) could read my HR values!

The method you import the data into the PC depends on your HRM brand.

Polars uses mostly IR. Most of them work with any cheap IR adapters you can find on the market, and I'm using one with my notebook IR port. There are some models that only work with the Polar IR adapters. There are also some models of Polar HRMs that transfer data thru the speakers & microphone... they call it SonicLink (only the S520, S510 and S410 uses this).

Suunto HRMs uses a little clamp on the watch and a USB cable on the other end. Meaning that you need to keep this cable and bring it with you wherever you need to download data.

The other brand I'm not too familiar.
