HD PENTAX-DA 20-40mm F2.8-4 ED Limited DC WR

I've tested the lens last night and this morning, here I try to answer your Qs: 1-2: I can confirm 1 and 2 are very good, good enough that I don't even need to worry about which aperture to use for infinity target. 3: I'll check tonight when I'm home. 4. min focus distance marked on the lens is 28cm, I don't know if it's for full range, but most likely it is. Bokeh is really smooth and nice, better than most zoom lenses or even prime lenses I've used 5. I took some shots of my kids at home last night, seems pretty good. But I'd better comment on this w/ proper setup and targets (kids moving too much)

Sounds like hot Wow Factor !! Thanks.

Another temptation from Feng Wei. Arrr!!!

Its about the size of the 31ltd right?

from pentax forum database

HD Pentax-DA 20-40mm F2.8-4 Limited DC WR
Diam x Length: 71.0 x 68.5 mm
Weight: 283 g

SMC Pentax-FA 31mm F1.8 AL Limited
Diam x Length: 65 x 68.5 mm

DA20-40 seems slightly fatter but lighter

How would this 20-40 compare to a 16-50f2.8?

Was at APD, it's same size as 18-55 WR , as slim as or slightly fatter a bit than , feels slightly lighter than though.

It's full Metallica body no plastic , I guess it is aluminum since it's surprisingly so light!

minimum distance is amazingly 250mm or less slightly estimate.

At f2.8-4.0, it's not as fast as FA77 which I like,
Waiting for fengwei review ! Go Bro!

Taken some shots indoor, will post .

Hard to choose.
On the one hand, I've got 24,31,35,40,43mm covered with primes and I get DA21ltd to close the whole thing.
On the other, this lens potentially can 'live' on the camera for most of the daylight hours when I'm on a tour.

I think everybody has gone too carry away about the lens quality & built, so forget about the price of this lens. Anyone knows the

local price of this lens?

Amazon Japan S$1040, local price should be near.

should I sell my FA31 for this? Can only have one...

WR is a key factor, IQ a given...

I just checked Amazon japan, it is 89,800 yen. current exchange rate is about sg $1 to 79 yen. so it is about S$1136. The exchange rate is

very good right now for sgd to yen. so If local price is similar with the aforesaid price then it is very good and tempting.

We need a comparison review
DA21,DA35,DA40,DA70 ! If IQ is same or better as these DA primes , then it is worth it!

If I were you I would keep it & save up to buy the 20-40. The wide opening of the FA 31 could give you the edge in low light, further this is

by far the most praised lens in IQ & built +++. I've been drooling to have the FA 31 but would not want to part my hard earned money for an

expensive prime lens. If you can sell it to me cheap cheap then I would advice you to go for the 20-40 drop the FA 31.
