Haze really due to burning by farmers?

Money talks.

He says:

Indonesian minister says Singapore "behaving like a small child" over haze

The president SBY cannot control this minister. And DBS wants to buy a big stake in Danamon Bank in such a country?

Singapore has tried to help through a $1 million collaboration with Jambi officials aiming to mitigate fires by teaching farmers zero-burning practices and training local officials to monitor hot spots.
Singapore now funds four air and weather monitoring stations that help to detect fires quickly. ‘We have been using them and found them quite useful,’ said a local forest protection agency official.

It was a dreadful mistake. Now they get the idea. Contribute more money or else.......

Nothing beats this line...

The minister for people's welfare also said Jakarta would reject any offer of financial aid from Singapore unless it was a large amount.

"Unless (Singapore) wants to give us a large amount, we won't consider accepting it," he said. "If it is only half a million, or one million dollars, we don't need that. We would rather use our own national budget."

Enjoying ultra pure cool (16 degree) fresh air now at coffee bean, resort hotel genting now!

Now some people are making sense. It is not difficult to pinpoint who owns what. If the American can identify Osama hideout, what so difficult to locate where is the burning?

When company purchase or lease land, don't they have the plan? One company has 'published' what they own. What is holding the rest? Make it public if they are innocence and many netizens will help them identify. Maybe even google map can do a good job.

I am glad we are hearing more names and hopefully we will not have to repeat again next year. We should reserve our rights to sue those involved for the health and losses we suffer. Hope to hear something more concrete from our ministers.

All these talks eventually lead to nowhere. They have been talking since 1997 & yet what actions have been taken. As anyone who had any experience with them will know, the people there only understand one language $$$. Need to grease the palms to get the arse moving, brains switched on & hands working. For all we know, they are in the pay of the big plantation boys & unless they get offer they cant resist, things will just continue as is. To them it just wait a couple of weeks & things will just blow over so whats the hoo-haa. Our govt is too clean & straight to know how to deal with these twisted ways & methods they employ there. My 2 cents.

I look out the window and see the entire place hazier than ever ......psi reading now is only reported as 111 ........I guess you do not need yr masks...... just go to work .........

Can hardly see anything from outside my office window now. This looks worse than yesterday when they reported PSI readings at 371

It is either that or the Indonesians are gracious enough to let Singaporeans report for work before they resume their burning .... :bsmilie:

Maybe the new chap manning the morning shift at NEA is a novice ...... not too familiar with the PSI equipment....... or the probe of the meter needs to be cleaned every morning ........

Shouldn't the the Government be issuing free N95 masks in this hour of need instead of making Singaporeans queue for them at the Drug stores?

Money, Bro.. Money... It's a good money making opportunity... And Gahmen needs the money... Hahaha

With brains like these, is it any wonder why their country, despite its size & abundance of resources, is always lagging behind.

Talks are all they can do but these are pretty useless & will lead to nowhere. They have been talking & talking since 1997 but what really has been done? Nothing. For anyone experienced enough to know, they only understand & obey one language that is $$$. Need to 'grease their palms' & 'oil their machinery' before they can get their brains switched on, the arse moving & their hands working. Not surprised if the officials are on the take, paid by the big plantation boys. Also the poor are often used as the frontmen, the fall guys, so identifying & catching the culprits responsible for the burning is also of no use. To them, all these hoo-haas will just die down naturally after a couple of weeks when the wind change its course or when the burning is finished. Why waste time energy & money to do anything? At the back of their minds, they are asking "why should I go thru all the trouble & do this for YOUR (Singapore) sake? Our govt is too clean & straight to deal with such people. Pointless to talk about the law, responsibility, doing the right thing, etc. Throw them a hundred million $$$ & one may then see the difference :) As someone said to me, money talks, bullshit walks. Maybe the only solution is to buy them off else we lose more from the billions in lost revenue from halt in tourism, construction etc
