Thought i'd ask here rather than set up a new thread.
Just a quick question -

How much does a hasselblad setup cost?
I might like to work with something like a 500cm with a handheld meter in the future. Suppose i get a general purpose lens like an 80mm, how much will it cost with the setup and all?
I used to think that hassey systems were $2000+ for even a basic setup, but after abit of looking on rangefinderforums, the prices seem to be around $1000 or so. Correct me if i'm wrong but the prices seem cheaper there, even after shipping.

I have a Pentacon Six which i'll probably sell to fund for this if a hasselblad is to my liking, although i've never used one so i really don't know :dunno:

I'm more of a portraiture/street shooter. Landscaping only when travelling.
I love waist finder shooting cause it's so inconspicuous while around and about, but is a hassey suitable for street? I don't find my Pentacon too heavy, so how about this one?

Hi, a good catch 500CM on evil-bay will cost you around SGD$1500 including tax and shipping. risk involved: sticky leaf shutter, light-leak back. Hardly the body will have problem as the 500CM were built to take some knocking.

if you like SLR, you will prefer your current P6. Hassy is more complex to use and certainly not so direct IMHO. IF you shoot street, I can confirm you need twice the time to focus and fire with a Hassy than a P6. As the shutter lens speed is direct relation to the aperture, you will need to free the aperture when deciding on the shutter speed. And the max speed is 1/500 instead of the 1/1000 of P6. And you mentioned you like waist level shooting. For hassy, you need to lift it up instead of the P6 resting nicely you just have to look down and shoot.

Quality, no fight in its class. Weight is about the same as a P6. It is a very sexy beast you can be sure to stir up a conversation anywhere you go. And of course the Hassy, you can really dress it up with parts and all are replaceable. I enjoy both cameras but prefer P6 for faster shooting. Anyway Hassy was never meant to shoot fast like an SLR. Lens wise, P6's Biometar isnt any worse than the Planar on Hassy.

Hope this helps in your decision :)

You could come to HUG and see for yourself if a hassy is right for you. So far I has not see an issue for using a hassy on the type of photography you do:)

@ DoveVadar: Thanks alot for the info bro, and your photos are most certainly inspiring too! I'll probably take a better look on the Hasseys and how their users operate them before deciding any further :)

@ Singscott: Thanks for the invitation! I'll probably join one of them after my exams are done.

It's bulb @ f11, burst many times while she lowered her hands.

Remember, it's ProFoto man... that thing can do 20fps
