Instead of the usual fireworks shoot for this location that I've done many times last year, I decided to experiment something new and did a self portrait, away from the crowd of photographers.

My first sunset shoot in months was rewarded with an amazing sunset (and rainbow). It has been 7 years since I bought my first DSLR, but I've never failed to return to this spot every year to capture our beautiful city skyline.

At that magical moment, the sunset started burning like a flame on my right, and a beautiful full arc rainbow appeared on my left. At the same time, it started to drizzle, but nothing was going to stop me or those people chilling at Esplanade to whip out our cameras and mobile phones to capture this stunning scene.

Happy 2017!

As usual, the first photo of the year is taken at the stroke of midnight. The windless night meant that thick smoke obstructed the view of the fireworks from MBS after a few bursts. The fireworks that made up this photo were the first 2 bursts, and one more colourful one from the lightshow that took place hourly before midnight.
