I use the velvety feeling black pouch that came with my Olympus Mju-II to hold the GRD2. If you have that camera lying ard, it makes for a perfect case where you can fit it in and put it in your jeans pocket or side pocket. Not much protection though from any hard knocks

If you happen to have a Mju ii/ stylus epic fixed lens cam lying around, i'll gladly take it off your hands! PM if so!

Do anyone know where I can get a GC-2 leather pouch? I have a GC-1, but will like one to hold the gv-2 together.

Checked mscolor and funan. Nothing of this sort there. Thx!

gosh , am i crazy to keep all 3 of them?

ya, i think u are crazy :bsmilie:

Sorry for asking...being a slr/dslr user. I am currently looking at getting a "serious compact" and i need some help. I am currently looking at the Digital GRII or the sigma DP1. i have looked at dpreview but they dun have a review of the GRII yet... Has anyone here came across a comparison review between this 2 or would anyone here happen to try or own both this camera. Please feedback

Paying the shop a visit to play with the cameras will usually allows you to make a better decision than what anyone can say. That said, a week ago I was deciding between the LX3, DP1 and the GRD2, and in the end I got the grd. I recommend visiting MS Color.
Chances are, if you are looking for manual control, none of the 3 cameras will disappoint. Though if you use autofocus, DP1 may be sluggish in that aspect.

In terms of sensor quality, the DP1's sensor is larger, so it's bulkier. Thus it can only hold up to a F/4 lens while keeping the form factor small. It's lens is very sharp wide open though. The quirks with the camera is a lmit of ISO setting at 800. It's a no brainer: F4, ISO 800, no image stablization means it's a poorer handheld camera in dim lights. But the sensor quality makes up for that drawback I think.

The LX3 iq is probably one of the best one to date for a small sensor compact. It handle noise very well at ISO 800 and is the camera to use if you want to shoot raw(which for this one you should). F2.0-2.8 lens and OIS makes this a good performer in low light handheld.

But at the end, I went for the grd2. I think this camera has character. It felt the most robust in my hand, and is truely a compact. I can change settings very quickly, and have a mode dial to store two of my custom setting. ISO 80 jpegs are fabulous. It can get very noisy at ISO 800-1600, but imo there are good and bad noise. The ones on the grd are what I consider good noise often creating pleasent grainy effects which I like.
Note that if you are going to shoot with high ISO though, you will want to shoot raw and it's not exactly the fastest camera for that. You still need a fast SDHC card for best performence.

besides that analysis above..think if you can stomach a small dslr. A GRD2 cost easily 1K new or 800 second hand. Pair a $450 350D + a $350 35mm F2.0 gives u better value for money and pics.
Oh yes, a slr beats the grd2 anytime in terms of pic quality. it's just not as compact and easy to bring around.

When I first bought the GRD2, it was mainly to replace a small compact and to approximate the control that I have on my SLRs and Rangefinders.

In the end, I'm finding that I'm using the GRD2 more. The layout and controls are great, if I want to work in jpeg instead of raw for casual shots, the exposure and white balance is very accurate. It also fits into my jeans pocket easily with a slip in case.

That being said, the best way to find out if its for you is to try it out at the shops. I spent some time choosing between this and other options and brought along an SD card so that I could view the results on my home LCD. In fact this is a must if you're looking to work with the RAW files since you would want to see how much you can tweak the camera's RAW format.

Thanks alot guys...i am kinda tired of lugging my dslr ard sometimes when i am going out during the weekends and am looking around for an alternative..something that gives me better control and is compact and easy to bring around...that all said about the GRD II, i understand that there are alot of add-on attachments (eg viewfinder, wide angle attachment, close up) you can add to both the DP1 and the GRD II, in this aspect, what are the availabiliy of the add ons for both camera and what which one is cheaper, from reading a a bit here and there is the add-ons for GRD II cheaper? Please advise

I use one main attachment for the GRD2, and that's the GT-1 teleconvertor that gives the GRD2 approx 40mm FOV. The build quality is excellent. You will need the Ricoh adaptor mount ard 30bucks together with the GT-1 (100 plus). It works well but as with all large teleconverters, do be careful as it flares easily. The GT-1 used to be in short supply but recently better stock.

There is also the wide angle convertor which I'm sure some folk here are using as well, which gives you iirc 21mm fov. All pretty easy to get through your dealer.

If you're into RF viewfinders you can get those too, but it will take up the flash mount on the GRD2 and iirc the viewfiners are pricey.

I'm probably going to get a wireless flash sync next to fool ard with my GRD2. Just going to try some strobist shots with my SB-25 speedlite :P

I think it's a little oxymoron to get bulky attachments for a compact camera when you have a DSLR already. Defeats the purpose of a compact. But of course, they are as light as feathers if that is what you are looking for.

I own the GV-2 which I got from MSColor for $275/- net. Probably not the best price I think, I got it because it's convinient to buy from them. It felt like magnesium, covers 4:3 & 1:1 aspect ratio with around 80% coverage. OVF is a good investment if you are intending to jump to micro 4:3.
Unfortunately the case to hold the grd and gv2 together are not in stock anywhere in sg. Still looking for a case to put them together.

You can get very nice and cheaper viewfinders from Chiff

wow the GV-2 is so ex! lucky i got the GV-1 free from past IT fair

Are any GRD2 users here using Aperture 2 with the RAW file output of the GRD2 btw? I'm wondering how well Ap2 plays with GRD2 files.

Hi Guys...thanks to you all for attending to my queries...i have gotten the GRD II....just 2 things i have observed...not sure if it happens to you all or i just got a lemon...

When i point my cam at lighted source(florescent tube or tv) there is a this funny colourful rays of light there will flickr beside the flourescent tube or tv set..it extend from both sides of the light source and fill up to both edges of my screen...

when i am just looking at the view finder of my cam in a room lighted by flourescent tube, the display screen seem to flicker a bit and the hue changes a abit with the flickring from the colour of my wall to a bit yellow and it switches to and fro with the flickering....do u guys get this?

Sounds normal, flourescent light will definately flicker. You can try pointing your cam at an incandescent light source and you will notice that there will be substantially less flicker.

From wikipedia:
"Fluorescent lamps using a magnetic mains frequency ballast do not give out a steady light; instead, they flicker (fluctuate in intensity) at twice the supply frequency. While this is not easily discernible by the human eye, it can cause a strobe effect, where something spinning at just the right speed may appear stationary if illuminated solely by a single fluorescent lamp. "

Btw Lim, I really like the photos of your 3 Ricohs :) Very nice! The special edition one looks really funky too!

I understand the flickering is normal....but wat about the pinkish purplish streak of light that stretched across my display from the light source where my camera is pointed at...i realised that thiss happens at natural light also...not only flourescent...sometimes after point at the light source for a while the pinkish streak will go off...but sometimes when the light is too strong, the streak will not go away...(eg in a car when i am shooting the front seat and the light from the windows beside the car seat will cause this streak too)...do u guys get this streak of pinkish light on your display too?
