Care to provide who we are being compared to? Are we living among the same living standard with those we are comparing?

very easy, I think if you can compare regional nations, msia, thailand, indonesia
i've calculated for the equivalent of $40k income in indonesia, you have to pay almost 10x the tax, and with lower standard of living as well
spore is not accused of being a tax haven for nothing ;p

....... the Clown prince and Gahmen are looking for more ways of raising revenue ..... when you are already holding the title of being the Number 1 most expensive city/country in the world? Spare a thought for the average Sinkie because this is definitely going to spark another frenzy of price increase .........

You complain because you are not a civil servant.

If you are a civil servant, you won't be KPKB. In fact, the more bonus, the merrier.

Some of my friends who are civil servants complaint that the bonus declared was below their expectations given the strong economic performance this year.

Therefore, it is dependent on which side of the camp you are in.

if the gahmen can afford it, why do it need to raise GST ?
dont forget singapore economy is widely influenced by external factors.. it can swing quite wildly from time to time..
whats amusing is, once AI can take over the majority of work, what will happen to all those civil servant ? :)

This is a simple question that most people will ask. If you can afford it, why raise prices?

We must understand that there is no free lunch from the government. We must recognise it. Unfortunately, there are still people who don't understand it.

The government gives this and that to certain individuals or groups, etc. The funding must come from somewhere; and the source must be sustainable in the long term.

That's why in all elections when the opposition parties said they wanted to give this and that, the government will always rebute one question back to them, i.e. where do you get the funding and how sustainable in the long term. As usual, almost all opposition parties have no answer to the source of funding and their sustainabilities in the long term.

The government has been giving out a lot of freebies / money to the citizens in these few years. The second fact of our government is that they don't wish to utilise the reserves unless emergency. Without touching the reserves, where are you going to get the funding to fund various causes or projects such as the pioneer generation packages, and so forth.

The third fact about the government is that they are running out of ideas. How do get money? If you have ways, you can submit your proposal to PMO.

Last but not least, it is not about the affordability of the government. They can definitely keep the current civil service workforce for their political chips. It is about to get funding to finance projects, etc without touching the reserves.

Infrastructure and healthcare spending will surely go up over time given the aging population.

Ask this ..........Where are the reserves and how much of it? The annual revenue of the Gahmen is (officially declared) S$69 Billion in 2017 and growing every year, so how much surpluses (if there is such a word) have they amassed over the years? What are the returns (again if there is such a word) on those so-called projects that they are financing?

What is Emergency? Can you still make use of money in an emergency? :dunno:

Who is guarding the National Reserves? ....... The President ??? ........ :bsmilie:

From someone who doesn't understand it ....... Greed and self-gratification. :what:

after being in CS for about a year, i'll be damn happy if AI managed to replace the ppl inside with lack of technical know how.
for all the crap they preach about smart nation bah bah bah, the planning they did was particularly poor so going forward the elderly generation will definitely be left behind in terms of e-payments.

the bonus this year, i didn't know it was a 4 year high until i saw the newspaper article and i had friends who left CS prior to getting their bonus as the salary package was better than what CS can offer for them.
if the economy was that good, there won't be a headcount freeze for 2 quarters in my organisation.

instead of increasing GST, why is income tax not increase for ppl who are higher earners ?

Are you in the private sector? If yes, headcount freeze is a norm. Maximizing profit is the key factor in the private sector.

instead of increasing GST, why is income tax not increase for ppl who are higher earners ?

Remember the estate tax was abolished? Why was it removed? The answer is obvious.

Secondly, increasing income tax is not the best method because many Singaporeans do not pay income tax or low income tax. By increasing GST across all spectrum of goods and services, it will maximize the collection of tax revenue. Singapore is one of the few countries that implement GST across all products regardless of whether they are normal goods, etc.

Malaysia has started GST but basic necessities are excluded. No such thing for Singapore. The government wanted full maximization of tax revenue. Left no stone un-turned.

It's like having someone tell you that Vladimir is worth much much more than Bill .....so much more than what you can ever imagine...... :)
