Got my RX 100

the leatherette looks quite good

all the zhnging accessories out almost same time as camera , everyone must be waiting for this for a while. LX7 didnt spot a 1 incher sensor, I think Xz-2 will probably not as well. That leaves RX100 to enjoy some space for a time being

got my battery. Thanks Loh

yes. it was torture. lol

Actually, it can work without the battery. Just plug in the power supply into the micro-usb port. Also, you can charge the battery via a usb port from your pc, laptop, car cigarette lighter output or even an external battery pack. No need to carry along the power supply when travelling. If the usb output is at least 1000mA it should work.

im really liking the look of this camera.. im thinking of going for the x10, but this seems very impressive too. only problem is the price. x10 is stretching my budget already.. SGD999 is way out for me.

btw, one thing i love about the X10 is the manual zoom ring. how does the control ring work for zoom, on the RX? i tried finding a video that showed this, but didnt find anything. and i heard that if u set manual focus, the control ring overrides any custom setting u selected and sets the ring for focusing, is that right?

I was in a Sony shop yesterday and I was told it will be released early next month.

Street price should be about $900??

Not too sure , but my impression is, the zoom is power zoom only and not manual ?
X10 is nice, but the sensor is very different in size compared to the RX100 . And if you get the X10 now, make sure its the newer batches with the new sensor without the light orb issue. If not, you have to send it in for replacement and wait.

thanks. i read that the control ring on the RX can be customized and one of the options is Zoom. im curious to know how it works, and how it controls the power zoom and if its easy to use.

yeah, im trying to find out how to be sure if the X10 that im buying is a new batch or not. read online that the serial numbers starting with 22 has a new sensor, but if u get it replaced, its the newest sensor.. a bit confusing..

the sensor on the RX is like twice the size of the X10, isnt it? and it can pretty much do everything the X10 can, and in a size thats smaller.. i'd definitely like to get the RX, but out of my budget right now

Yeah , the sensor of RX100 is the same size as Nikon j1/v1, which put it at different league compared to the existing enthusiast compacts like LX5, XZ-1, X10.
The retail price is steep at 999, but you can check out the usual shops for better pricing. Usually will be 100 cheaper maybe.

yeah, the sensor size is something thats really tempting me. well not just the sensor size of course, but the sample image quality ive seen looks to show that the sensor size really does impress.. but im already stretching my budget on the x10 spend around SGD700.. 900 is gonna be a stretch too far :P but maybe i'll wait til its out before deciding

Coming to market in the first week of August !
Between then and now, start your preparation:
- break the piggy-bank
- sell off your current camera and accessories
- save money by skipping 1 or 2 meals a day
- sell off some of your stocks or one of your kidneys
- take a loan from the loan-sharks
- think of excuses or reasons to give to your CFO to get her approval for the purchase
Don't say I didn't warn you ! ;)
