yes, that is what i am facing now........so normally i will remind myself to do the last notify at the airport upon going thru the custom immigration. but this round kena such fine is not i never did it but their system screw up, i able to notify after a few trials but the email acknowledge is having some problem so i took a snap with my HP camera, 2 mths later a fine letter was been sent to me.

i dont know where the photo went to, kept trying to find but cant......

oh no! keep looking for it!!! ask them pay for your 22cents stamp and time wasted due to their inefficiency system...

haha

I'm not nsf, on block leave. Would be doing some travelling for a few days in Msia. How to tell mindef?

They say exit permit not required as trip is less than 3 months. :dunno:

The funny thing about notification and how it has progressed today is that it really isn't necessary. In this day of computerisation, your movements in and out of the country are already tracked. That's how they know you never notify and then send you fine or warning letter.

In such a case, why can't it simply be a case of doing away with the notification and then simply automatically tracking it?

There is no minimum period for notification and notification can even be done on the same day, or even after you flew out from Singapore; hence any reasons of forewarning are rendered irrelevant.

Neither is there any need to get approval before you can travel. Hence, the whole system of notification is now redundant.

PERHAPS, it is yet another way to earn revenue :).

If you are a regular, i think applying for overseas leave is considered as notification already.

I believe it is for tabulating and manpower calculation. They want to know how much manpower is available for call up in times of need.

I am 34 but never kenna called for reservist yet leh.... I don't even know what unit I am in....

but I got warning letter for not notifying mindef.... notify them for what? never even know what unit I am in.....

Assuming you are still having block leave and still in SG, just call 1800 3 676767 to inform.

redstone, to my knowledge, you need to inform before you leave the country for more than 24 hours, and need to get permit if you are leaving for more than 3 month. So since you are going for only a few days, you need to inform them but not required to get a permit.

hihi just a scenario qn here.

if say my bf going overseas, when booking the dates for the holiday the block leave dates weren't out but by the time he gets hold of the date that he has to report to his new unit he is still overseas, then how?

will there be a penalty or such? assuming that he has already notified that he is going overseas for a couple of days before that.

omg i have probs explaining myself here :x

TIA!

dun quite understand your question...

Usually when your bf got the approval from mindef, he is quite safe...

if unsure, call mindef, they are quite friendly.

ha ha ha, let me share my experience :)

During my active days, even for a 1 day trip to JB, I have to take halfday leave to go to CMPB (previously at Tanglin) to apply for the paper exit permit :(

After my ROD, they introduced the phone notification system. Once, forgot to inform while going for biz trip. Look for yellow pages in Changi Airport and luckily can find one :)

The purpose of this notification is, as some CSers had already mentioned, to enable Mindef to know the manpower status of each unit should there be a need for a recall.

It is not to re-call you back to fight. Let's be real, if there is a war, you think you can still fly back ?

So I guess we will have to live with it until they tell you not to notify them anymore, like in my case :)

Always remember to take down the 4-digit code after you have complete your "transaction". Any dispute, just quote the 4-digit code. I have not done the web version before so don't know what is the safeguard.

And yes, i have not been warned or fine before :)

Cheers !!

Forgot to notify once and got a warning letter.

Recently, forgot to notify again. Now waiting for results. not sure if it will be another warning or fine. Anyway, if tell Mindef no money to pay, what will they do?

Two things can happen here :

1) if your sob story is convincing enough, they might let you off

2) if you can't convince them, then they will charge you in court and you will have free food and lodging :(

The system never fails to surprise me with their uneffectiveness.

The system is never about effectiveness; it about having absolute control over your life until you reach statuory age. They are using operational readiness as an excuse to enforce such control over your lives. Those who had served over the years will feel the resentment that develop over it.

Take for example this scenario, fail IPPT after 3 attempts and window closed for the year. Suppose to enrol for RT but end up hospitalised on and off for 2 months. Notifying the unit about the situtation wasn't enough. End of 2 month receive a 100 for charge.
Appear in full 4 with a walking stick at the JDO with stack of medical papers. Their look on their face already let me know I won.

The key thing to beat the system in whatever matter is to have your facts which they can't dispute and make them look silly.

If no money, maybe they send you to BTC. :bsmilie:

Leave more than 24hrs out from SG need to notify. I got a warning for that only.
