I think the local price is due to retailer margin more than anything else...I mean whatever we buy here is always just a little bit more than price overseas+shipping+gst. Retailers can price it so because they know we will pay more to avoid the hassle of online purchase. Why do I say it is retailer margin? Coz I know locally got one shop selling the black at $550+some discount coupon. Forgot the website, but somebody did sic on hwz. Anyway, stock for the black is quite limited everywhere...

US$399 + shipping + GST (S$34, based on US$399) = is not very much cheaper than S$599 . and if you happen to get one with a little problem, the shipping to send it back to US cost some money too. which work out to be quite the same to get a local set

Warranty seems to be the only advantage.

last time my GoPro bought in US, had problem with it and just paid for shipment back to gopro, paid like 10 - 15 SGD iirc, they sent me back a new set.

For Black Edition,

Retail price = SGD 599
Online Price from GoPro = USD 399

Isn't it much cheaper to buy Online directly from GoPro ?

US pricing have never and will never include tax rate as they vary by states so do factor in additional 6-10%.

I just got the HERO3, update the firmware.
So far not giving me any problems but the video quality not much diff from my HERO2.
Video playback runs slightly slower on a PC.
No doubt the size is slightly compact but battery life flat out easily.

The quality is the same because they did not change their video compression coding. What is better for the hero 3 is the increased stops of dynamic range.

Battery drain faster. Used the bigger battery last longer. Do not buy the LCD it drain faster.

Bought mine last Saturday.

Was kinda disappointed as the footages was of a little difference than the GoPro2. Other than that, I am still exploring GoPro3.

The stupid part was when I bought it, I took it the back LCD screen comes with it like GoPro2. Until when I was shooting my son, I was like where is the screen? Going to buy them tomorrow.

Still doing some reading up on what's best shooting mode for GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition. So far, I found this article is very helpful helping me to understand better.

And Yes. The battery drained faster. It lasted me only 50 minutes. And with the LCD screen which I going to buy tomorrow, it will drain even more faster as mentioned by airforce1.

But the GoPro 2 never came with the LCD. It has always been an optional accessory.

tried to order the battery direct from gopro website ... couldn't get pass the "shipping address" part though

btw, good idea not to throw away the black colour square base that came with the packaging ... can be modded into a "tripod adaptor" ... i'm thinking of modding it into a "2-in-1" -- tripod adaptor plus add-on wheels to be a mini slider of sorts :bsmilie:
