Goodbye Nikkor

Yeah.. I think they should hold on to those exotic lenses!! In fact I would like to see soem exotic lenses for the DX also. 12/2.8DX, 18/1.4DX and 24/1.4DX would be very nice to replace 18/2.8, 28/1.4 and 35/1.4 respectively!

The biggest gainers are portrait shooters. The very affordable 50/1.4 suddenly becomes a portrait lens at a fraction of the price of a 85/1.4!!

Yup. Actually, they should re-introduce the 58/1.2 Noct - on a digital body that is the perfect replacement for the for 85/1.4 on film - you get almost the same FOV and almost the same DOF isolation.

Hmmm...they're even discontinuing production of their Coolwalker...no big lose here though. :bsmilie:

Not necessary now because then they did not have aspherical lenses so commonly available, the Noct uses a group of lenses to correct coma. Now that can be easily done with aspherical elements. The 28/1.4 is one lens which exhibits very litttle coma at f/1.4!! Yet, it was discontinued.. Sad!!

i am waiting for someone to produce a DX 500mm or 600mm
smaller and lighter

Correction. The Noct has got an aspherical element.

arrgghhh...no more 50mm f/1.8....:bheart:

Yep, that one was discontinued earlier this year.

Interesting that the AF 50/1.8D is also discontinued - wonder what will replace it.

They will probably come up with one with IF, ED, AF-S, and all those stuff you dont need and charge you more for it. This one is too cheap. :(

AF-S 50mm f/1.8G IF ED VRII. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

50mm f/1.8D AF discontinued??? Would we have a replacement model or it is just 50 f/1.4D?

Phew! Am I glad to have bought it already last month! It's a good lens. Value for money.:D

AF-S 50mm f/1.8G IF ED VRII.

:what:  :o

well, i do hope they come up with a walk-abt FF replacement lens for the 28-105. would love to see a constant aperture lens for this classic range.

Correction! Only the AF 50mm f/1.8 lens is discontinued (without the 'D'). Both AF 50mm f/1.4D & AF 50mm f/1.8D lenses are still in production. :D

See the following URL: -

http://nikonimaging.com/global/products/lens/af/archives.htm

According to Nikon it is the AF 50mm f/1.8D and the MANUAL 50mm f/1.8that have been discountinued.

Only the 50mm f/1.4 left at the moment

Shame to see the 28-105 go, such a fantastic lens, along with others!

Maybe they want to push users up to the f/1.4D or .... OH NO!! a 'G' version??.... Horrors...reverse macro with sticky tapes to control the aperture :bsmilie:

So someone has final realised the advantage of having the aperture ring have they?

I remember not so long ago, some people here were saying that Nikon getting rid of the aperture ring was progress and a it's demise was a non-issue...

Doing a backflip are we?

Nope, didn't you see the laughing smilie at the end that tells a reader the comment was tongue-in-cheek? No? Then here's a clearer one, specially for you...

In your marvellous wit (not), you have inadvertently exposed a major failing of G lenses. Thank you! :bsmilie:

I remember that your liege (espn) used to wax lyrical about the 50 f1.8 D and how one could do Macro by just using a reversing ring. How are people going to do that now eh? :)
Like YOU said - use sticky tape? Then you would have to estimate how much to lift the blades by. Oh you are SOOOO cluey. (did you get the tongue-in-cheek undertone in this post?) :bsmilie:

I think the BR-2A (?) comes with another ring that fits on the F mount side to open up the aperture, does it? I don't know because I haven't used it before.
