I have come to realise that along with the dpreview forums I also need to read:
* http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/
* http://www.dyxum.com/dforum//default.asp (for reviews of Minota lenses and cameras)
* http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/index.asp..
It would seem that that list is getting longer and longer.. but its a good hobbyWrgts to the differences in price I now understand mass orders, but it is a weird S pricing strategy to push everyone to buy from HK surely! I thought the whole point of having the anti shake in the body was to reduce the cost of the lenses.. ?? Weird..
> But also note that the lenses are often strictly not comparable, so it's only a guide...
Agreed.. Zeiss is better, the rest are just about the same..... NOOOOOOOO.... sorry... my true colours are evident.... :cry:
Totally agree.. unless of course they stay as a niche market again .. (see below)
As a kido, I grew up in a house of broadcasting equipment, audio stuff etc.. I have full repect for the Sony brand..
The rest of this section become difficult because you are suggesting that S is targetting a cliche market.. It is debatable whether there is space for a cliche manufacturer (see the issues of Contax, Leica etc..). When you mention G, others will say L and with Canon's dominance it is diffcult to imagine a shift worth noting...
But you know, you might be right.. in which case it will become like a Vaio.. you kind of see 1 in every 300 notebooks (a niche expensive item).. their users love it, the rest can't get it... apologies to those hurt by the last comment..

I do agree with you to a certain extent. I do experience alot of the similar examples you have quoted too. But on the typical consumer's POV, you would have to understand why they felt that way too to be fair. Some had great experience with the product before, for example like my Sony CRT TV which lasted me over 10 yrs, i'm willing to pay more based on the reliability i have experienced. Most TV panels has similar specs, unless a particular brand did a feat that what other brands don't provide, then i'm blindly supporting a particular brand.They are not targetting a niche market... just a higher end of the market where people have more money than good sense... sometimes, ok that is a sweeping statement...
Did you know that SONY walkmans were so pricey that they started AIWA to compete for the value-for-money segment so as not to dilute the brand cachet for SONY... at least that is what I am aware of...
SONY pricing in S'pore is particularly stiff cos S'poreans are suckers for brand name like no other... you have fathers who tell their sons - "don't you ever buy a Hyundai, you'll get stuck with one..", huh?, I have relatives who tell me, I trust only Honda... another says, SONY TVs are the best, they are worth the extra $1000... or others who say, the quality of a Ralph Lauren shirt is different that's why it's so expensive (for your information, on discount, a Polo T-shirt csots $175), when I can clearly see my hand from under the material, not much different from Giordano... actually, both are made in China (sic)? Well, we are suckers bar none for brand names, regardless of quality... so SONY has a good laugh to the bank I guess...
How much was the cz 135 before the drop in price?
If the 24-70 plus A900 add up to $4000 I think I'm sold lar...
