whether 85mm is "too tight" as others have stated, depends very much on how far away you like to stand while snapping. If you find 85mm indeed to be too tight/too far then perhaps my setup might be preferable.

Instead of 17-55mm and 85mm, i have the 24-70mm (allowing me to stand as close as 15cm away). covered both sides with 10-22mm and 70-200mm f/2.8. Yes there is a 2mm (3.2mm) gap at the wide-angle side but the world's not gonna get destroyed by that.

ya tot of that set up before....
but people are always debating over the 24-70mm and the 17-55...
i would really go gor the 24-70l if it has IS.... and much reviews have stated that for cropped sensor best to stick with the 17-55....:(..
but sometimes the 24-70l jus takes me away...hahaha....
would IS really matter???haizzzz...:dunno:

whether IS matters or not depends on how steady your arms are. I tell you i enjoy using the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS a lot more than the 24-70mm f/2.8 because the former is so steady while the latter is so jittery when phototaking. i am considering obtaining the IS version for 24-70mm if it comes out next year.

which is better depends on your focal length usage. that should be the biggest decider which lens you ought to get (besides IS utilisation). I frequently use 70mm at MFD a lot, so 17-55mm would not be suitable, even though it has IS.

For anything below 100mm I found IS to be not as important. 24-70 f2.8L with IS is more targeted DSLR with video mode. I tried the 17-55mm and 24-70mm on a 50D and I find 17-55mm focal range and corner sharpness to be better. 24-70L have better contrast and colour.

As for set-up for my crop body, I prefered:

11-16 ATx f2.8
24-70L f2.8
70-200 f2.8
50 f1.4
135 f2

Just my 2 cents of views.

Agree. Its all depends on your personal preference :)

Very subjective leh.

I have on my 50D

24-105 f4
50 f1.8

And looking to buy 11-16 ATX.

Most times I used 24-105. I seldom shoot landscape but I used 24mm on my cropped sensor for it. All depends on perspective.

I just find IS super useful when shooting low shutter speed for some action blur.

1/20 SS at 55mm end (88mm equiv)
