i second the 135mm f2, beautiful bokeh! If you can't afford the 85mm f1.2, the 85mm f1.8 and 50mm lenses all provide pleasing bokeh.

One of the sharpest Canon prime even shooting wide open.

From my experience and photos I had seen, my choice would be 50mm f/1.2L, 85mm f/1.2L and 135mm f/2L.

i 2nd e 135L too.sharp sharp w nice bokeh. No bucks for 50L and 85L.but e sigma 50f1.4 shld be on par or close to at least.
So what is TS looking for?

Nice topic! I love bokeh too.. The best thing about using Canon EOS (I use 50D) is the flexibility to use so many nice old manual lenses..
My best bokeh lenses are:

24mm:
I love my new Canon EF 24/1.4L II

50mm:
Meyer-Optik Oreston 50/1.8 (m42 mount)

85mm:
Helios 40-2 85/1.5 (M42) = unique, beautiful, swirly bokeh

105mm:
I have only Nikkor 105/1.8 AiS but will be getting a Contax Carl Zeiss Planar 100/2 which should be better

135mm:
Meyer-Optik Orestor 135/2.8 (M42) = The Bokeh Monster!
Just got an old TAIR-11 (M39) but haven't got the chance to play except shooting some flowers around my garden. Painting-like bokeh.

I dont have anything longer than 135mm since it would be too long on a 1.6x cropped camera.

If you are interested to see samples of these lenses, please visit my blog:
HERE
and click on the lenses I listed there. It's written in Indonesian though. Sorry..

Hope it helps you in choosing the right bokeh lens that suits your taste.

Sorry guys, i forget to state the budget.
looking at something cheap and not bad.

50mm f/1.2L, 85mm f/1.2L, 135mm f/2L

What camera are you using? The picture looked abit grainy. Since its a still life, try using ISO100 on a tripod and set to Av mode with max aperture (i.e. 1.4). Make sure you have mirror lockup enabled and set a 2 sec timer. I am pretty sure the picture will come out much better.

what you meant by better neh?

but hor... i think you should post another seperate thread for this :)

i'm using a 40D.... shot it hand-held. currently dun have a tripod yet as i'm saving up for a benro travel angel CF model.

so the pic is bad becoz of the handshake (didnt drink enuff caffeine dat day?) and the noise (high ISO?)

hope i'm not going off-topic here in this thread

Well those Ls certainly aren't cheap - the cheapest of the lot is the 135L which will still set you back about $1.3k+ (brand new set).

If you want something cheaper look at the Canon 50mm f1.4 or the 85mm f1.8 - both can also give good bokeh.

I also vote for 50mm f1.8 II. Although I have yet to try out the 50mm f1.4 or f1.2, they are 3 to 4 times more expensive.
The cost to performance ratio is unbeatable.

F1.4 is about 3X more expensive than an F1.8II and a F1.2L is 20X more expensive than the F1.8II.

50mm f1.0... Too soft, almost everything will be bokeh...., too much glass, will be very heavy...., too expensive, its a collector limited lens.... If you really see in f1.0, I think you can try older canon manual 50mm f0.95 :D

Looks out-of-focus though. Try selecting the focusing point closest to the part where u want to focus so u won't have to recompose so much.
