Go for K100D or K10D?

I was just on the verge of holding out my NETS card in return for a K10D body this afternoon - only reason I didn't was I had too much other stuff to carry. I have a K100D - I was impressed by the fact that the K10D didn't seem nearly as much heavier as I expected. OK it didn't have any battery in it, but presumably the proprietary battery is lighter than 4 xAA? I was quoted 1370 body only, with a 1gb card. I don't want yet another kit lens, very good though they are ...

The only thing that holds me back is that, nevertheless, I love the lightness of the K100D; and I have a few M lenses - I am aware that, at least until they issue another firmware update, there are some metering issues with the old manual lenses on the K10D. Decisions decisions. So I bought a 300gb hard drive instead (so much for saving money ... )

AP SLS has body only for 1300 w/GST

Hi,

Anyone has update for the latest K100D price? has it fallen below S$1k yet? I am keen to upgrade to my first dSLR and is now eyeing K100D. Despite all the hype about the K10D, i reckon K100D more than serve my needs.

Now have to let go my beloved S3IS (with Raynox WA converter lense), but not before getting the K100D first - CNY coming and dun wan to end up with no cam at all :bsmilie:

Thanks in advance

Cheers,

aiyah..I already said earlier, is there a need to abuse yourself like that?
the current price of the K100D is already very low and is in fact the lowest in its class.
Just go out and get it now and enjoy the pride and satisfaction of using the K100D! ;p

Totally agreed :)

Several recent photos taken at the Thaipusam Festival w/ my new K100D:

All taken in jpg handheld. A great camera, and I can say I've taken better photos w/ this camera than what I got w/ the K10D (which was also a great camera, but not to my like...)

I just bought online a new K100D with kit lens and full warranty for S$875 inclusive of tax and freight. Needed a second camera.

eBay! I was actually looking for the cheaper K110D kit from a few US eBay sellers (currently hovering at low US$400s new) when I chanced on a couple of K100Ds being offered. Bid and won. Camera arrived day before yesterday. Could be even cheaper as camera serial no. is eligible for US$50 Pentax USA rebate and if registered in US now there is 3 yrs extended warranty provided.

S$875 is a cheap price to pay for a brand new k100d.

You may have to be careful with the Pentax US rebate. For that rebate to work, you have to send in the rebate within 30days of the purchase. A photocopy of the original receipt, fill up rebate form with a US mailing address/name. Together with these, you also need to cut up the barcode on the box of your Pentax purchase.

So in returns, it takes 4weeks to 6weeks for them to process and send a cheque to your US mailing address with your name. In order to cash out the cheque, you also need to have a US bank account.

Just want to highlight that you need a friend in US to help you with it.

mind sharing which particular eBay seller you got it from? I presume you bought from a online seller rather than from individual?

that means now you have both K100D and K10D??? wow.......

but i thought most users lug around a second cam in the form of a compact P&S cam that can be placed in the pocket rather than another bulky dSLR?

hi, sorry to ask again...i look around at eBay and saw two sellers are selling the brand new K100D with kit lens around that price u mentioned....one is US based selling Pentax USA warranty set while the other one is Canada based and selling Pentax canada warranty set. Which one did u get? since u mentioned the USA rebate, sound like u got it from the US based seller?

for the US warranty, you have to send it back to US?

Hi Fengwei

Do you care to elaborate on what you meant by better pics with K100D? I personally find the pics produced by the K10D to have a 'lemon yellow' cast. Is this also present also in the K100D pics or is the WB for the K100D more accurate? :)

Well, mostly because I love the feel of holding the K100D more than the K10D. You know, when you love your tools, most likely you'd be able to use it well ;)

Both cameras are great, and I'm sure K10D is alot better than K100D in many aspects. But to me, I guess a K100D is more or less a better tool :)

I don't know about the lemon yellow cast you were talking about, and I certainly didn't notice that w/ my own short experience using K10D...

Cheers!

All pictures?

Most of them, under artificial lighting ......... have toyed with the WB settings including WB shift ......very hard to eradicate.

was with zenten when he try out the cam the k10d exhibit some kind of lemonade flavour colour cast which cannot even be eradicate by preset wb and adjustment of k temp after much meddling with it was finally countered thru adjustment colour shift...it not the normal orange cast as the case for most dslr under artificial lightning.
