wah making me curious what the smell gonna be...

Yours is brand new from USA bro. Different batch maybe?

Should open up the g locks and look inside the tubing. Might be mold or mildew growing inside? If it is, it will be easy to clean.

My 1541T has been in rain mudm sea... no smell at all even when it is soaking wet.

Ortega and Reno, maybe you want to disassemble the legs and look inside the tubing. See if mold or mildew is growing inside the tubing. If it is, use a cloth with very light clorox mixed down with water and do a pull through in the tubes.

shhh.. dont tell ppl... hahahahah..

i did open and clean the other day after we walk in the rain... all well inside......

but this smell still is damn interesting,

There is a smaller version with lower load specs. Look at the gitzo site, the first model listed in the explorer section. But I have yet to see it in stores.

that 1 weighed 2kg which is more heavier than the 2 versions. i thought the gt2540 is a good one, with 1.4kg and can support 12kg. wonder why it has discontinued.

ask my fellow gitzo CF tripod owners

does it give out a smell when t is wet or you hold it too long?
mine does :(

sounds like a chemical reaction

ya... it got a smell.... dunno what smell is it... hard to describe
could it be the smell of the grease?

i kept my GT1541 in the cupboard and when i retrieve it, i remember there was some kind of smell.

edit : i also discover what look like 'grease stains' on the shaft, near to the joints i remember. not a lot, randomly. could it be because i keep my tripod in the cupboard? anyone experience this as well?

May be can call it The Gitzo Smell :bsmilie:
I got the mystery smell from a Gitzo product, managed to figured out it's coming from the rubber grip of the G-lock, the part you have to twist it to lock/unlock. The more you twist, the more smell you'll get

Nope, already tried to dissemble out the carbon tube to clear, there is nothing there leh... still got smell..... you try to rub your palm along the tube and smell your hand...

yah i just did that, theres this smell like burnt iron....

ok lah, just get the leg warmers, might help those u might be uncomfortable with the smell...

the gitzo CF smell gets on my hands and need to wash with soap to get rid of it, very irritating

yes some kind of burnt smell, will go back to the shop where i bought it from and see if they live up to their reputation of good service
sadly i think i will be disappointed

the smell was there from day one, brand spanking new. when i asked about it, i kena tai chee to agent, then radio silence ... ... .. .. .. . .

i think its just the smell from the CF they use, if most of the CF tripod have it, guess its like a signature smell of Gitzo, Burning Iron.. hahaha..

hopefully u get things clear with that "shop"....

No wonder I don't smell anything. I am using the basalt version.

Somehow I'm glad to know that its not peculiar to my tripod but that the smell is a Gitzo thingy.
I always thought my hand smelled of cf after handling my tripod, maybe its the cf or the lamination method they use that results in the smell.

I use my Gitzo GT2531 everyday, rain or shine, mud or sea water no smell at all.

Maybe you can try those thinner ones that you use a hairdryer to put on. Those give very hood grip, rubbery.

Those heat shrink rubber you mean? think before but if your tripod is exposed to rain often, if the water managed to slip in, inside may grow mold... like our spectacles. It would be even harder to clean... so i just gaffer it... ;)

because it was replaced with GT2541, minor changes on the platform for center column mounting head.

Expensive yes. But yet many people still buy it. Because it is excellent. If you want to save some money, get the older aluminum or basalt fiber versions, if you can find them that is.

I still have the basalt explorer(3section) on sale. *Limited stocks in SG*
