Getting to know my NIKON D800

nice shots rain5533.
for me, the noise improvement from D700 to D800 is too little to notice. did you shoot in raw or jpeg?

Just switched on my D800E for the first time , after charging the battery . I put my "old" 2Gig CF card in,which I used on my D700. The counter says 17 Pictures ...right , 17 . Need to get bigger cards, haha ;-)

Nikkor 70-300 non vr, not recommended on d800

this is after resize and unsharp mask, with a tripod and live view

DSC_05251.jpg

not satisfied with the result, i tried again in the day time with an easier subject
still not sharp

He he now my AF 180mm f2.8D prime when work in D700 or D300s and D7k still work nice and sharp all the way.

When mouth to D800 the result just so so only.
Have to stop down to f3.5 :( feel so sad

more samples with an old tokina 17mm (how i miss the 17mm on a FX sensor)

images have been cropped for composition, another plus of the huge file

This is what you see when you have a dx lens mounted and the dx crop activated, notice the rectangle

Picture is taken with my iPhone through the viewfinder

The color reproduction of the photo of the bridge with blue skies is very nice. The rest, the colors look flat, and with crushed shadows. Did you turn off the lighting optimizer or whatever you call that function that balances the shadows & highlights.

For those of you who came from D7000 or other crop sensor camera, may I ask whether there's a big difference in IQ when shooting the D800 in crop mode using the same lens? What's the largest RAW file size when shooting in crop mode?

The IQ will be almost the same as a D7000. I believe it's about 30mb for 14bit uncompressed RAW.

shot with my tamron 17-50 DX
