whats the main difference between the AD and the DHC series?

DHC is digital control, AD is analog control

Just get a digi cabi 50L from Parisilk & unlikely u will upgrade anymore. The new AD-50N come with digital hygrometer with no battery require. Retail price is $178 which you can get it at Parisilk @ $168. This model come with pull out tray which the 30L don't.

if it is the digital version, just calibrate one time and that's it. right??

No need, for AD just adjust to desired RH and you can leave it

Analog is sufficient in any case even for pros. It's the capacity you have to worry about

Wanna take into consideration before I buy

leather wallets, old photographs, photo films, DV tapes, camera batteries, SD card, MMC card etc
anyone tried to put watches with leather strap?

As long as you don't forget them there's nothing wrong with storing them inside the dry cabinet. Rechargeable batteries have a self discharge, once they are below a certain level they cannot be used anymore (Lithium Ion types) or need special charging with refresh / reformatting (NiMH).
Batteries are not sensitive to certain humidity levels.

bought from cathay photo during 2004. self collect. smallest Akarui Analog cabinet as i only have 1 DV cam and 1 cannon G5 and some DV tapes to store.

to all those digi cabi AD users, u guys adjust the knob clockwise right to archive the 50% for the first time??

cos mine the RH is stuck at 72%. lol..

Have you read the instruction booklet??

if its at 72%.. as long you turn the correct side it should go down fast enough. wont take so long to see the differences. Im using analog digi cabi.. i turned to right to get 42%.. its pointing at 1pm/am now. (Note: Its said that all models have a slight differences..some is ok at 12..while some is at 1..etc etc.)

Yea its normal.. it will take awhile..relax..and observe in a hr time. it should go down. To reach 40-45%.. you might need to wait until the next morning.

lol! NO dry cabinet is instant. Even full digital cabinets take time to get you to your desired setting. Even though you set at 45% the meter will still take awhile to reach it. Analog cabis just require you to set how strong you want it to be, then the meter outside will tell you the % after it's done. it takes time to stabilise for the first time, and consequent changes can be made. as such, most people usually set it at max, then lower it accordingly to make it more humid to achieve their desired RH!
