You can try OP, I think they are selling it around 2050.

Sorry...wat's OP. not too familiar with acronyms. Only know MS, CP, Lords, John3:16.....

TK foto is selling D300 @ 2050 , bro

Anyway, am quite keen to get those Complete Guide to D300 books by Thom Hogan and others.
Anyone can recommend which one to get? Thanks.

Which camera? I was thinking about this as well.. Currently nikon has 3 cameras that are considered for serious amateurs - D90, D300 and D700. D300 was launched early 2008 so in terms of technical advancement, it will be a little behind say D700, which is a full frame DSLR with almost identical body as D300. D90 is a less expensive DX DSLR with features from D300 etc.

If you are very serious into photography and can afford it, i think D700 is the best you can get. I believe FF DSLR is the trend and future.
If you do not need FF and thinks you will upgrade in say 2 years, D90 could be better choice. I see a replacement of D300 to be launched latest by end of next year.

many thanks forthe kind comments....
As I travel frequently I am considering an allrounder 18-105mm or 18-200mm lens.
Yes, I am also considering a SB900 flash and a Gitzo CF tripod with a Kang-something ballhead.
The tripod and the ballhead is used and buying from a friend.

As for a good mid-zoom lens, I'm looking at a 17-55mm or a 24-70mm f2.8.
else I may even settle for a 24-85mm f2.8-4.0 lens. Any comments for this lens?

wah so much money to spend ah..
17-55 better!
This what i think!
;)

When you have over lapping range, one of the lens will be left alone.
And you'll like the output/performance of 17-55 more then 18-105/18-200.

Lots of people use 17-55 for casual shoots too.

true..

I may try Lords....
The 17-55mm lens is yummy but maybe a little to heavy lugging around during my travels...that's why thinking of a all-in-one 18-105/18-200 lens.

Use the 17-55mm for 'serious' shoots when I'm more familiar with photography:think:

U wont regret buying the 17-55 rather than the 2 other lens!
If u dont have a budget get 17-55 and 70-300 for zoom.

Im sori for posting too many replies to u.. Just wants to help out and share!
I got overheard De-Luxe Cameras Centre Pte Ltd
Address : 111 North Bridge Rd #01-16 Peninsula Plaza Singapore selling D300 for $1900
Maybe you can check again.
Advise you once u scout for good price gt camera which is cheap buy it but if lens is expensive go find other place unless its also cheap at the same shop.
Somtimes they play around with the price.. camera cheap but lens ex.. lens cheap but camera ex.

Anyway sori again..
Cheers!

no worries...the more help the better...
I'm quite wary buying cams from unknown shops and would rather pay a little premium at reputable shops for comfort-level.

any comments on those guide books for D300?

Congrats on your upcoming purchase! :)

I was in the same dilemma a couple of weeks ago deciding between a D300 or D700.
Was upgrading from D200 then. After playing both cameras at CP for a bit and reading up a lot through the forum, I decided to get a D300+grip from CP & a 2nd hand 17-55 F2.8 from one of the CSers! I also own a 70--300Vr and it works really well with my new D300 too. I am really delighted with the combi and having a hell fun with it! Don't worry about the weight as you will get used to it eventually and in time to come move up to the trinity telephoto lens!

I do own both guide books for my D300 and Nikon flash lighting system written by J. Dennis Thomas (WILEY) and I must say they are good enough for me! Bought both for less than 70 bucks from Riceball at Funan.

i got bought lens there.. 70-200 2.8 VR gave me quite a deal.
2nd hand lens of the same model was almost the same price like the one i bought from them!
pay extra $100+ to get a new one so i grab it (but of course i did my homework comparing prices).

Gude books - i dont have any. Try searching threads for it.
Hope you will find it.
Cheers!

congrats on da D300, if budget permits maybe? 17-55 + 70-200 + SB900... woo laaa! :lovegrin::lovegrin::lovegrin:

in Oct 08, i bought the 17-55 over D300 after much thought. If anyone is to ask me around i will recommend him to do so too. thou it is a heavy lens but the performance and IQ it produced certainly made it a better choice at the moment over D300 unless you dun have a camera to begin with. now the 17-55 is my main lens and i have not taken it off my camera since then. I'm going for macro lens next. But if you dun need the lens .. perhaps you should wait a while more for the D300 replacement with much better capability and probably video too.

canon already got 50D at 15MP and 5DmkII at 21MP(/w video) out. nikon just released D90 12MP (/w video) and D700 12MP (/w FX) not long ago .. next in line for upgrade is D300 and D3 ... dun think nikon will lag back so much behind. rumors have already been floating around, so i think fellow members that are considering upgrading to a camera with semi-pro spec to wait for the next body that will replace D300 instead of going for it now. D90 already kinda overtook D300 and D700 FX is out. just gotta hold on tight and bear with it a while more.

A friend of mine bought his for $2000 from a place called P&G...(but I'm not sure where is this place, near peninsula plaza I heard)

Anyway, here are the prices from Sitex:

.
D300 (Body only):

D90 (kit 2-with AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR)

P&G is at Adelphi if I'm not wrong.

Any freebies?

Good deal?
