U21 sounds like a football team :sweat:But sounds cool! :D

Wow, JoshSiao, I still think SAJC photographic society is good. I almost choose to go there after visiting for a day at the beginning of the year. The photos you all had on display were GOOD.
Which display? CCA Display in 1st intake or 2nd intake? Open House display in Oct 06?
Cause Open House we hung pics on strings, 1st intake CCA display was erm, set up on that day, the person-in-charge "forgot and did nothing" and 2nd intake, we just sat in dark room, open the door and tell people to come in see (Dark Room is very dank, its below a staff toilet upstairs and flanked by the ground floor toilet as well)

In the end, most of the pics are taken by two or three people only:dunno:.

Or, are you refering to the A3 size pics at the blue boards outside the General Office. 75% of them are taken by one person (Malcolm Koh Sheng Wei) 05/06 batch and he used a 20D. He's very good especially at sports. None taken by sch's cam. At that time, only got D70 DSLR. I had to convince the teacher to get the D80 by telling her the D70 rated shutter passed and it MIGHT die.
Or outside some LTs? That pics we didn't choose, the principal did.:bsmilie:

Just found this thread :D I'm self funded too. Unless, of course, the 4D gods decide to bestow my parents with cash, then I'll demand a refund, haha.

So many from photog societies? (: I'm just doing it as a hobby.

i have to admit, our college's photog is severely under funded. plus, there's not enough ppl save for a few who actually produce good images. AND. the principal's a pain in the butt. haha

Yeah, 20D AND the great 70-200mm f/2.8L I only had one photo there, a shot up a tree in the botanical gardens taken on a crappy old 2MP camcorder. Every exhibition was practically overshadowed by alot of his photos (He was that good and the rest of the society was that bad) Even this year after his graduation, we were still printing his photos. But at least I have made my mark too. You've got a 1D Mark III and the trinity. (Your siggy is funny) Lucky lucky. If theres official events you'll look pro. I remember last year when I had to cover SAV Opening Ceremony (with Minister of Education and other bigshots) some hired photogs were looking at me in a funny manner. One even asked me, are you using a prime? I was using my 30D and a manual focus Nikkor P.C 105mm f/2.5 for most of the event, switching between kit lens and a 75-300mm.

And I think we should avoid flaming our own principal in any way.:nono:

PS: This Nikkor P.C is not perspective control. Its the old naming given by Nikon before they dropped the labelling of the number of elements in the lens since on one cared how many elements their lens had. Built in 1974 to March 1975 only, P meant penta or 5 elements and C stood for their new multi-coating. (I had some ppl thinking it was perspective control even my dad who owned it for long time thought it was perspective control! Until I told him it ain't. Obviously they've not even seen how a real P.C. lens works)

noooo sherman we're in NP
at least we aren't pulling our hairs like our jc2 counterparts. and we're slacking our semestral holidays away =D

and yea SAJC principal might not be as good in ways students expect. she's leaving soon or so i heard.

hahax i wanted to join my school's photog society.
but i prefer taking as a hobby, and a college freelancer.
den dun have to be restricted under photog law, like
"today u MUST go take dis photo of so n so n of dis event"
>.<

i just sit outside their darkroom everyday n whine n beg for their accessories they hardly know how to use. hehe.
i wish i had the keys

Hey... I'm in charge of both organizing who covers what event, and hold a duplicate key to the darkroom... We aren't restrictive or harsh like your example... come join NYJC photog :D

Anyway, I try not to ask the same person to cover events in a row, nor force people with a valid excuse to go...

And I DO know how to use the accessories in the darkroom... barring the old film developing kit...

ya.. not many ppl know how to use the traditional darkroom equipments anymore..

only know AJC's photog still has a functioning traditional darkroom.. anyone from AJ here?

Yeah, at the end of this year. Apparently not just student's expectations but also some higher ups.

Oooo the equilivant of the Chief Photographer in SAJC. I was photog president though but I did some duty handouts too. You should see the excuses they give for NOT wanting to cover or only want to go for certain events. SAJC photog is a sad case where most join becasue its been a last resort CCA or had a misconception that event coverage is an excuse for ponning lessons. They join, also everything dunno how to use, some even unwilling to learn, dun want to carry heavy DSLR and want the PnS. Only one or two per year have vested interest in photography and that keeps the society going at any rate. The teacher-in-charge has told me that she wants to give up and shut down and let it merge with AVA, which I said no way!

So when I do have the darkroom to myself (casue I had a key as well) its fun to play around with the Nikon SB-800 w/ D80. Stroboscope effects, remote flash, etc... Read all the instruction books, and read the dusty collection of old dark room techniques and guide books that I can dig out from the boxes.

In essence, better enjoy your time in J1 and the early part of J2 as much as you can. Your end- year holidays are the last real hoilday for that time. J2 is mad mad rush rush, study study till drop. I'm surfing CS cause I am tired of study.

Wow.

I think NY photographic society is very lucky then...

We have 2 dedicated teacher ICs (nikon and pentax shooters :( just joking)

We also have a number of photographers, who joined with personal kits and experience. Additionally, many members went through a course early this year and are competent in the use of dSLRs

Most of the people in NYPS are very "on" to covering events and practicing in their own time with the kits that we have (keep it up!), and the budget our teachers "fight" for is enough to amply purchase great equipment!

I'm actually the "chief photographer/VP" in NYPS, nice to see great minds think alike :D

And yes, I hope I'll enjoy this end of year, as I can see that this might be the last time of my life without too heavy worries!

dude joshua do you have a monitor calibrator? always thought that the sajc photographers were under equipted and unexperience when i saw those covering events compared to other JCs

So good your schools have Photography club. My school nothing at all!

i do see members from the photog club in my current school. some have their own gears. but then they are still very green in covering events. owing to a lack of experience. and i dun see their works getting published or shared so is quite sad.

shooting is about sharing and not just put it in your own computer and take up hard disk space.

and i dun see why the photog society do not have the right to fight for funding for lenses! take for example a school band or orchestra. a decent instrument will cost about 4k plus. i was from band so know how much $$$ is spent maintaining them.

come on lah. even the most expensive and usable lenses are like 1+k, which is cheap relative to the cost of other CCAs. why dun i see school funded equipment on the run? or too many bodies chasing too little lenses?

I think option 2 could be a choice... too little lenses, too many bodies.
