General Discussion : Canon PowerShot SX1 IS

I choose the 450D + 18-200mm lens over the SX1, mainly because of its low-light performance.. And also because on a SX1, you are using a zoom level instead of a zoom barrel... which I am very used to on my FZ50... :)

It's a dSLR; in general it would have better performance at higher ISO.

I'm terrible at these tech stuffs but here's a simple 'comparison' of the different ISOs I did today after getting the SX1IS. Honestly, it seems okay to me (my expectations are always very low lor) :P See it here

Interesting. Where can I find out more about such programmes? Thanks in advance.
I heard of it in S5IS... but is it comparable for SX1IS?
I can't remember the exact name but you could try Google or some USA camera forums if you really want to know.

Read about CHDK here.

SX1IS does not have it yet, some one will come along and do it eventually.

Thanks for the info. :)
Chances are I won't use it even if there is one cos' when I use the SX1 IS, I would have decided to just shoot without being too particular about the quality. I'll just work from the jpeg copy.

what is the lag time between shutter button press and the actual capture of the image? Much slower then dslr?

Dont you think a wide longish screen looks ugly/obiang?

i dunno...i prefer a spacious looking squarish screen. anyway i got the SX10.
but cant wait to see a shoot out btw the SX10 and SX1

I find the wide swivel screen very cool. I don't shoot images in 16:9 though, just video.

So far what I know is that, as long as it is a camera, it has almost zero lag time. Only camera handphone got lag time.

Correct me if I'm wrong . . . . . :)

Depends on your standards. There are also different lags, autofocus lag and shutter-release lag. I think the SX series may be expected to show more autofocus lag than DSLRs, especially at the dimmer longer focal lengths. Shutter release should be quite fast though if I recall. There is also shot-to-shot lag. I think DSLRs are much better when it comes to taking additional shots quickly.

The question is, how fast do you need the camera to be?

I think typically the dslr's AF & burst shots are better than a PnS, however that if that OVF is used... LV would be another story....

so is this camera take photo good in low light condition like indoor etc...?

i like this camera as it has all in one.. can take video too.... furthermore it now has CMOS sensor .. what other camera can do it too?

hopefully the price will go down during the next Computer show?

it is heavier than G10 and even 450D body.

Depending what is the benchmark that you are comparing it.... 450D / LX3 / G10 ?

Just sharing my 2 cents worth of opinions:
I havent seen any original(w/o pp) SX1 pics posted here but the review websites I read so far only praises SX1 for the faster fps and HD video and better resolu LCD screen but pic quality(which is most impt to me) seems to be on par w SX10(doesnt justify for the $300 price diff).
I m a LX3 owner but disappointed by my cam's zoom capability or should i say disability :sweatsm: . If there is a cam w SX1/SX10's zoom range + SX1's s fps rate + LX3's pic sharpness and vibrant colors, it will be the ultimate consumer cam for me and I will gladly pay $999 for tt

at least 450D, if S1 is like the size of G10 with RAW.. it will be good too....

LX3 zoom not so good... indeed LX3 is sharp as it is low ap.

not sure.. when i ask he give me this price and i ask him have free gift or not.. he go check and told me memory card and battery.

Qn: How many frames can the SX1 IS take at continuous 4fps speed?

By the way, it is $200 diff :)
SX10 IS around $695
SX1IS around $890 (Ask 2 weeks ago: MS: 895, Alan Photo: 890, TK photo: 885)

If you use the video mode regulary, it is worth to pay $200 extra. It has full HD video and the ability to zoom to 1120mm (2X TC function) in video mode with little lost in quality.

The sensor is also different... SX1IS uses CMOS..... :)
