Actually colour SX10 IS edge out a little.
I still sticking for with S5 IS for the moment. BTW, how is the quality of the Full HD Video? Is the quality as good as S5 IS? In term of compression, hardly JPEG/Codec compression quality lost is seen that kind...

Hope u understood me...
With SX1 IS, I think it will be a great combo with my 450D. I using using S5 IS for days shots and 450D for nightshots and portrait. S5 IS for days shots cos I am lazy to move my body around. Flip LCD is really super convenient.

Abit curious... won't a 18-200mm lens be a better combo for your 450D instead? Coz you need to charge two sets of batteries...

There are times when Video recording comes in very handy. Also, I am going to charge AA batteries since my flash uses them anyway.

So a Full HD Movie recording camera will be in my shopping list, when I have extra cash of course.
Now after paying school fees and Driving centre fees, I need to sell my standard zoom lens away so as to bite till next payday. Not very good to rely in Ang Baos... :sweatsm:

And I hate changing lens lol. I got consider that lens before actually. But S5 IS's 432mm is more useful as well as I can x1.5 with the canon telelconverter.

I think I used the video function on my FZ50 for less than 5 times over the span of 2 years...

:bsmilie: Yeah, then stick to the FZ50 lor.

I'm the other way round ... 2 weeks after getting my SX1, I've used the video function at least 5 times :bsmilie:

You guys different mah. lol

I used the video functions in Events also. Just 3 days ago, I video my baby niece's some funny actions, something that photos cannot tell as much.

dpreview posted a concise review of the SX10 (using CCD) a few days ago and said that the autofocus hunted at the long end of the zoom. I'm hoping that the CMOS in the SX1 will do a better job in low-light situations.

Anyone knows why Canon put in a better EVF in the SX10 than in the SX1?

Really doubt CMOS will help the auto focus. That depends more on the camera's processor and the alogarithms used.

It is f5.6 at the long end. That just puts me off from getting it.

Let me correct myself, it is f5.7! Will not be easy to handhold, even with IS.
That's why I am hesitating.
20X = 560mm focal length while my S5 IS's 12X Zoom = 432mm, with 1.5x telelconverter, mine becomes 648mm. Furthermore, my S5 IS will be a "fast" lens since its F-stop remains at F3.5 only.

Hope newer model (SX2IS and SX20IS??) makes improvement on their lens, making them faster.

You mean at full zoom, the maximum aperture for SX1 is f5.6 ??? :o

I am using the Raynox 1.54X with my S3IS (S2IS died....). Agree with you, 665mm f3.5 with IS is amazing! I can handhold it in decent light.

I doubt they will change the lens design so fast. The S2/S3/S5 all have the same lens. Making a fast lens with that big a focal length range is not easy, especially if you want it in a compact size. I would have preferred a lens with a similar focal length as the S_IS series, and give me a faster lens. <SIGH!> Marketing always seems to win. 20X Zoom!

20X Zoom start from 28mm while S2/3/5 starts from 36mm.
I am using Original Canon Teleconvertor. I recall ur Raynox Converter is bigger right?

I question - Wide converter lens will always have soft corners right?

Yeah, the Raynox converter is bigger. It also costs more. You can mount it on more then one model of camera.

For wide angle lenses, it will really depend on the quality of the lens you purchase. I am quite happy with my Raynox WC so far.

may i know what kind of video format SX1S saves its HD video in? mpeg4, divx or mov?

You may try to look at the user guide for SX1IS. It is available in PDF format, in Canon USA website.
