We all know the eventual results. I know I have to keep helping myself to survive as always and not depend on anyone's help. Status Quo.

As sure as the sun will rise again tomorrow ...... there will be lots of Singaporeans struck down by Lightning ....may they rest in peace ...... :)

In that case you'll be the only one left standing.:)

All of us will be resting. :bsmilie:

I see something about SG election that I like a gazillion times better than American elections. It appears you all get the process done in a few weeks...it is like someone says chop chop and it is done. Here it feels like a campaign for 5000 years...they wear us smooth out.

Our election is a very serious business. Unlike US, we dont have those fun fair carvinals and endless talk shows to be entertained

BTW, Donald trump is a joke and a clown

Our election is about continuity and solid performance of an established team of the best talents. It's never about going for anyone who is untried and untested.

Our successive prime ministers have served many years of training in waiting. We don't chance our progress and our future with someone new.

I think there is an error in the 2.3 and 2.4 section where they talk of black headgear...that doesn't quite make sense???

It's Geography... no secret about that. Effectiveness is where "size do matter"

Imagine if you are a class monitor and asked to get the class to behave and read their book while the teacher is out. Not hard to do in a class of 30 student. Now try to be that same monitor to do the same over the entire school of student. So what make you look like a hero at controlling a class of 30 ...with an entire school you find that is almost impossible to keep everyone in line thus longer to get things done or controlled.

But we have done v well as a class of 30 under our current govt.

Its not just not about controlling the class. To control is easy. To make this class achieved so much and get respect from the entire school is another level.

As a small country of local population of 3.5 million and farthest points at only 43km, with no oil, no timber, no agriculture, no water, no gas, no gold, no minerals, no nothing at all, our GDP US$60,000 is 7th in the world, even surpass US and UK GDP. US GDP is only at US$43,000.

We are a very small class, but our reserve is at US$300 billion. Which other country can match this? some may have more, but given their big size and natural resources, its expected of them to have more.

But a small class of 30 with such success, its extraordinary.

In the past, some foreign leaders mentioned that SG is like a small city or province in a big country, no big deal. Small dot on the map.

I say to them "Show me a small city or province with similiar level of success as SG, then come and talk abt putting SG down"

In the analogy of using a class of 30 and the entire school, this class of 30 has achieved the best O level results in every subject for most students, in the entire school.

Bro I think you miss his point entirely (in the context of this discussion - he was replying to something I said).

To carry the analogy further on...yeah but at the end of the day...shouldn't everyone graduate from school no?

Didn't LKY say this himself?

Did LKY say people of SG rest on your laurels??? I think not.

And I'm sorry but do you mean GDP per capita I hope? You also have the highest level of income inequality in the world I believe??? And please I am by no means putting SG down when I go here...because the whole world is turning into the haves and have nots and the last time that happened???

There is more equitable distribution of income in Singapore than many countries.

Most Singaporeans are more equally well off than most citizens of other countries.

Almost all of us have good homes, drive good cars, eat in good restaurants, have expensive camera gear and go to overseas for holidays.

All of us can aspire to a good uni education and good jobs.

All these thank to LKY and his very capable team.

Every country has income inequality issues, the only thing is how far the distance between the poor and rich.

Even in Finland where it has the highest GDP has income inequality problems.

In SG, 70-80% are middle income. Bottom 10% and top 10% are the low income and the ultra rich. Most of us own homes (some may argued that HDB are not owned by us) and decent jobs.

We don't have serious issue abt income inequality. We don't have homeless dudes like in other countries. And no drug and gun issues as well. :)
