Gastric problem

Hi, i have the following symptoms,
frequent blurping
frequent farting
bloated (before & after)
appetite is good
bowel habit is good
first week, has pain/cramp similar to heartburn.. then no more after taking ocid
slept with my head lifted higher

seen my family doc and was given 2 perscriptions of ocid (omeprazole 20mg) of about 2week. doc suggest doing a scope.

any advise?

i had the same syptonms like you more than 10 years ago. gsatric can be triggered by stress( back then my job was way more strssful than now). i did scope and confirm 3 ulcers before io was given omeprazole.

the gastric problem is chronic and seen doc regularly until 4 years back when i shifted house and seen a different doc. instead of new medication. he suggested that i should exercise to keep healthy. simple advice that anyone also know but it work!

i started playing badminton twicw a week gastric was gone and i can eat well without the symptoms anymore!.

heres te catch, it is a regular thing you need to do. the bright side now i am abit of exercise freak. i need to exercise at least twice a week( when i have more time i run, gym and badminton, fillinf everyday with exercise). i realised that whenever i get too busy and dont exercise for more than 3 days, the gastric problem returns and i cant eat as much. or even vomit what i ate.

conclusion: the age old formula to stay healthy, exercise. as most you will become healthier even if your gastric dont go away.

What did they see in the scope to conclude that it is gastritis? Did they come up with a proper food diet for you?

have one of the pic similar to this (also got bubble)

the specialist say it is gastritis, so i just take his words for it. Scope can really tells alot of the condition that we r experiencing.

as for diet, my family doc has asked me to abstain from some food as mentioned chilli/spicy, coffee, tea, alcohol, fried stuff, sour (tomato..), fatty stuff, cabbage,

dietary modification
no eating / drinking within 3 hours of bedtime
no overeating or reclining right after meals
no fried food, low fat diet
avoid all caffeine contained food & drink, coffee, mints, soda pop
avoid any other food that causes problems
avoid spicy sour (tomatoes, citruc fruits) fruits that is acid producing
avoid deep fried foods, nuts, chocolate
avoid chewing gum, lozenges, mouthwashes (for reflux)

lifestyle mofification
elevate the head of the bed 4-6inches
avoid tight fitting clothing or belt
quit tobacco
eat small meals(up to 6 times a day instead of large meal)
excercise

above, some are for controlling gastroesophageal or reflux

surge, thanks for sharing..

maybe a few sip shld be fine. not big glup. i'm just following those advice.

Jaybaokong, thanks the information on GERD.

I have rather bad gastric problems which stem all the way from childhood. The root of the problem seems to be excessive gastric acid. Chinese is called "wei suan". I dont have any pain, just discomfort, a lot of "wind", nausea and loss of appetite.

I did a gastroscopy in 2003, but I dont have any stomach ulcers, and the doctor didnt find anything wrong with my stomach, except that my stomach lining appears a bit red, which means its slightly inflamed.

I have been taking medicine like Omeprazole, Domperidone, Losec, Librax on and off for the past 5 years. It gets worse when Im under stress. I tend to get an attack when I get my menstrual period too. (My gynae said that some people get migraines, some people get gastric attacks during menstruation, its not uncommon.)

So basically, what I can do is stay away from food and drinks which tend to irritate the stomach ie coffee, tea, orange juice, soft drinks, spicy foods, anything with coconut milk. Oh yes, alcohol is a NO NO as well. I havent touched a drop of alcohol since 2003. Hahaha.

I also try to take small frequent meals. Instead of 3 big meals, I take 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day. It helps my stomach to absorb food better. If I buy a packet of chicken rice, I split it into two portions and I eat one portion at 2pm and another portion say maybe 2.5 hours later. Sometimes I make a ham and cheese sandwich for a light meal. Things like chicken pie, can also be counted as one small meal.

I think chinese medicine will help improve gastric problems, but you need the patience and diligence in taking the meds. (I once took chinese meds for 6 mths and my appetite improved tremendously, I gained 10kg! Im not joking.) Ever tried or considered going the chinese sinseh route?

I hate it when poor health and illnesses stes in. All routine activities have to be put aside until you feel better and have the energy to go on.

precisely, almost like anti-social. seldom have group dinner with friends and family. cos i can't eat a lot of stuff so as not to aggravate my condition. tonight, went to oasis, but only take porridge, egg, vegetable. initially, they thought the food not up to my standard. as for clubbing, kind of weird to drink plain water in a pub rite? many say i lost half of the joy of being a human being with so many restriction on foods..

Good that you adopt a healthier lifestyle right now. :) But a bit strange that gastric comes back once you stop exercising.

Yes, have considered sinseh if things do not improve. I will be seeing my specialist next week for review after taking 6 weeks of medication. During the 6 weeks, I had one attack. :(

As for breaking down into small meals, I am trying hard to do that. Sometimes not that easy especially when eating out, the portion is more or less there unless you chose to give up some of your food by not finishing it.

Hi Falcon

Sorry to hear that you had an attack while on medication. However, do give the medications some time to work. You may have to continue medication for some time to see the positive effects. Your specialist may even consider increasing the dosage or increasing the frequency. The most important thing is to take the meds religiously and for as long as your specialist deems necessary.

As for chinese medications, I would advise discussing this with your specialist. Some chinese herbs can interact with medications and reduce their efficacy.

It could also be helpful to keep a diary documenting your attacks. Note down the kind of food that you ate over the last 24 hrs before an attack, where you ate the food, quantity, your level of stress and anything else that you think might contribute to your problem. Dun forget to put down details of your attacks (symptoms, how long it lasted etc). This should help you to identify your triggers for gastric irritation.

Same predicament as you. Can't join friends/colleagues for buffet, etc cos can't eat most of the stuff. Those nice and tasty ones are usually spicy n oily as well. :(

Hi

My hubby has suffered from stomach pain for the past 2 years.

His symptoms are as follow:

slight fever sometimes when the pain occurs
pain in upper middle of stomach never move place before
vomit
pain always occur in the middle of the night

Have done ogd and colon and everything was normal so doctor diagnosed him with irritable bowel sydnorme around july 2008. But this pain thingy starts from oct 2006.

Recently the pain starts getting worse, very painful stomach cramp for the past 2 weeks.

symptoms change:
still got slight fever sometimes when the pain occurs
pain in upper middle stomach
no vomit
pain occurs in the middle of the night always at 2 plus or 4 plus in the middle of the night and after eating food no matter soupy dish or oily food all will cause pain (Now he is afraid of eating, but his stomach is hungry)
pain getting severe will roll in bed and cry
weight lose fast 2 weeks ago is 56 kg now 53kg

we went back to sgh a and e dept they do a blood test and x ray and everything was normal.prescribed him with some painkillers and booked him an appointment at 1st sept at gastroenterology department.

But I see him so painful after eating and his weight loss is worrying me. What should we do ? we have try tcm but the symptoms always recover and comes back again.

Now he is eating more fibre in his diet and try to reduce stress but all doesn't seem to help.

Should we wait for the 1st sept diagnosis result or seek for a second opinion ?

Who should we look for any specialist to recommend that don't need to wait ?

We still have a daughter which is only 6 months old so I am worried about his health condition.

Or should he go and do a full body checkup will it be useful to us ?

Regards
Michelle
