if IQ is what you really want, try some manual focus primes.. i also can't afford those so i play with primes instead. alot cheaper and some are really really good.

here's one to show what $30 1960s technology can give you =)

I agree. Kennynah, if budget is a constrain, don't dismiss the possibilites of old manual primes.

200mm f/3.5 prime with D70. This prime cost me $60 and well worth every penny...

i had a go at tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro this evening at tkfoto....

well..i've never had the chance to compare against, say nikkor 85mm f/3.5 micro or nikkor 105mm f/2.8, to know if this DoF at f/4.5 (distance estimated it to be about less than 5cm from tip of lens to object) is impressive...

what do you think? your experience and advice will be highly appreciated :)

thanks...

as usual, many shots taken today were simply atrociously bad...

until, at the end of the session, when i was seated and having a kopi siew dai break.... i saw this man...

a thought came to me...

whether making millions or a few dollars.... the importance is in the attitude towards life....

this generous man shows it all .... life probably handed him a bad hand... so what? he deals with it in his stride...

fyi...he even stopped momentarily to pose for this shot... and smiled happily at me later on and moved on... i thanked him, of cos... although, i think, i did him no justice in my inability to clearly convey his positivism towards living in this image...

Is that the AF version or the manual version? either way you won't go wrong they re both great lenses. i personally don't enjoy tamron lenses cos they don't 'feel nice', but they are good lenses.

about prime lenses, i usually stalk BnS and snap up anything that comes at a low price. haha. but must act fast. sometimes i ll get those with scratches and problems too just to play. got my 35mm f/2 for $100. i ll be letting go quite some of my lenses soon cos consolidating my equipment so can look out...

i also convert other lenses to nikon mount cos they re better and cheaper than buying the nikkors. like my minolta and some fuji lenses. have actually converted close to 10 of them now, but only kept afew. minolta's are very good.

thanks Ben...for the tip on converting lenses to nikon mount and feedback on tamron macro... will explore this option...

the one i tried...has both AF and manual functions... it's the clutch type...push it out for manual...pull it in for AF function...

cheers..

don't recommend those shops bro. our BnS do have some good old gems if you are observant enough. browse them daily and act fast.

oh btw, something for you to consider
