Hope the IQ is good! Have been hoping to get this, but at this price thinking of looking at LX3 again!

The package that I was quoted.

2) LCD screen Protector
3) 8gb SD card (class 6)
4) Case
5) Cleaning Kit
6) Original Canon battery NB-6L

All for $739 with GST. Reasonable deal?

I got myself a S90!!
its damn cool and fabulous. haven't test it out yet. but will post some reviews later.
there are some cons though. the ring on the back of the camera looks filmsy. anytime it will drop out. haha. but overall i like the IQ of the camera. esp the nostalgic mode.
btw, i sold my 70-200 f/4 USM for it. =(

Could one kind owner please tell me what the maximum aperture is when zoomed in, say to 35, 50 mm equivalents? TIA!

max aperture when max zoom is f4.9
when out wide max aperture is f2

Will post some shots and maybe do a mini-review later when I have time. The camera grows on you. I'm beginning to like it more and more now that I understand some of its limitations.

For some strange reason, the first few shots had bad jpg artifacts on "large fine" mode. After changing modes back and forth, the jpg artifacts are now much less pronounced (even in the same mode). Maybe just needed to warm up... ha ha.

Probably you are right with the "camera grows on you".
From DPreview some user extremely like, and some just returned it very soon after using for 1 week or less.

I think slightly expensive. The NB-6L is an extra battery?

You might want to download the user manual and have a look. The link is somewhere in page 3 or 4 of this thread.

The pic looks as if it is taken with a fisheye lens! Heavy distortion on the raw files processed with from LR. The native program from Canon is better but still heavily distorted.

Lots of artifacts. The details look very much like taken from a digicam.

Guys, I know the range is f/2 - f/4.9. I'm interested to know how fast the maximum aperture falls as you zoom - which the websites and manual don't seem to have.

The reason is, I'm interested to know how far you can zoom and still have a large aperture (say f/2.8).

OK, on the Net, found these data:
"For example, at 60mm, LX3 has f/2.8 max aperture while S90 has smaller f/3.5."
"2.0@28mm-2.5@35mm-3.2@50mm-4.5@85mm-4.9@105mm"

Combined:
28mm 2.0
35mm 2.5
50mm 3.2
60mm 3.5
85mm 4.5
105mm 4.9

Not too bad, though wonder what kind of DOF control that means.

i thinking of S90 or G11, with underwater case when it's avaliable...

Just now at J316, while waiting to collect my DSLR (10 or so mins), 3 S90s were sold & 1 G11. Either everyone loaded ... or these are really good cams.

I was one of them who bought a S90 at J316 just now. haha

some samples please :)

Hi all S90 users. Do have a look at the LCD screen when it is total blank. Is there a faint whitish light showing at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. It fades with a decrease in screen brightness but at default setting it is quite obvious... Just wondering if it is present on all screens. Thanks.

I don't see any in mine.

Anyone collected the case for S90 from Canon already? Can any kind soul post a pic of the casing? Am wondering is it worth a trip down to collect. And what SD card is given with it? Is it a class 2 or 4? Thanks in advance.

i read from dpreview forum, tat your concern with pics looking like fisheye lens from s90 is indeed true. but tat's due to shooting in raw, if pics are shot in jpeg, the jpg processor will "de-fish" the problem for u. if not you might wanna use DPP to de-fish the pics. quoting from someone on DP, "you are paying only 4++ usd for this small camera and getting a 28-105mm lens with F2.0 on the wide end, wat do you expect?!" so i guess consumers have to live with it or work around this issue at the moment.

also, for the artifacts, someone on DPreview forum returned his s90 becoz of poor high iso performance. have a look at http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/g11.shtml although the author from the website is talking about G11, but both s90 and G11 uses the same jpg engine and censor, so i think it's quite safe for me to link them up. pple at DP are condemning the review coz the author used LR to convert the raw images.

I am assuming tat you used adobe LR to convert the pics just like wat luminous landscape uses. my understanding is that LR DOES NOT fully support the raw files from S90 and G11 yet, hence it may be giving you poor raw conversion. try DPP, the pple over at DP have great hi iso pics posted when they converted their files using DPP instead of LR.
