for macro i think the best way to shoot is to add an external attatchment lens..the macro function built in to the camera only reduces focusing distance i think[correct me please if im wrong...]
is that so? Anyone knows how much to purchase the external lens for macro? Thanks...

Nice shot..! So, u have bought a FZ7? From where and how much? Free gifts?
Hey, your pic taken at iso80, 35mm? How the noise issue? Wanting to buy the FZ7 but slightly worried abt noise fr the reviews I've read. Care to share your experiences on high iso?

Actually thinking between the FZ7 or TZ1? Main worry is still noise. Wonder how do they compare since I can't find any meaningful reviews on the TZ1 yet. Venus Engine III ?

FZ5 and FZ7 are still 'clones' when it comes to attatchment and external flash and yada2... aside from the obvious upgrades like MF, increase shutter and etc...

whats the thread size for the lens adaptor of FZ7?

same more samples :)
My opinion for High ISO, if u print to 4R or just for small size screen display shd be ok.
Ofcourse you can't compare them with dSLR :bsmilie:

#1 ISO 400 resize.

#2 ISO 1600 resize

#3 Sample for all ISO test, crop 100, no resize.

Wah bro u are quick man. MS color price just the basic, no freebies but thats not material now. I went down to see but found that noise was an issue at iso 200. Could you post some pics to prove me wrong ?

You must be one of the first in this forum to get it?

I found it to be rather noisy at iso 200 onwards? Whats your take?

Thanks for the pics. I was at suntec today too. Thought it's very noisy at 400iso when I tried.

hi armadillo
for your flower picture, its very nice although I noticed some noise at the 4 corners.
have you tried to remove it using "Neat Image"?

For your fisher price images, how come the one at ISO400 seems so much more noiser than the ISO1600? Did you got the images mixed up? I am actually preparing to sell my FZ5 to get the FZ7...is it worth the upgrade? I really need VGA movie recording!:)

so anyone knows if AP and MS have stocks and their latest selling price (today) and packages ?

cheers

Perhaps you should qualify what is called "very noisy". What did you compare against? dSLR? Also, about noisy images.. if you compared to other point and shoots did happen to compare the sharpness issue?
Some of the other PnS got slightly less noise than Panasonic ones, but that's because they got a built in "neatimage" in the camera. (points to canon's image processing chip) If you ever sharpen the images up to Panasonic's sharpness levels, I think the noise would be even worse.

Dude. This is quite consistent with many other tests around. To compete with the other manufacturers offering ISO800 and ISO1600, Panasonic has to succum to doing noise reduction. Why it's cleaner? because (from what I see) they used a median filter followed by a USM, applied inside the camera. -.-" I'm studying such image processing at uni, that it becomes rather obvious what happened to the image..
That's basically what you get from looking at images at ISO400 from say a canon or minolta super zoom camera. you lose sharpness If you don't believe me, then to a camera shop, test the images, and compare against any of the FZ cameras..

I don't know about you, I'll take sharp noisy images over lower soft noise anyday. Sharpening images is alot harder than doing noise removal and softening the image.

Noise should be the last issue to look at. sharpness, colour + contrast, megapixel (not an issue nowadays), memory card type, they should all rank above noise. Just to let you know, when you resize images for the web, noise WILL be reduced due to bilinear and/or trilinear resizing.

Please dudes.. when people buy dSLRs, they look for sharp lenses, and for the final images produced. Take a look in the canon or nikon forum, most of the people are wondering if this lens is sharp or that.
If they look for low noise, Nikon and Olympus would have closed shop long time ago.

Unseen, thanks for the explaination :)
well said

For the flower picture just resize no pp.

For the ISO test samples is all is correct ISO.
ISO 400 have more detail and sharpness as compared to ISO 1600.
For high ISO mode, may come in handy in certain situation, although not really clear, but I think good enough if you print to 4R size.

Hmmm the reason I got my FZ7 because I don't have FZ5, if you plan to upgrading I'm not so sure. Ok, few feature for FZ7, in movie record with my 2G SD if I set to 640x480, 10fps can record around 1 hour+, if I set to 640x480, 30fps around 15minutes+.

Other feature such as MF, bigger LCD.
I like the 3:2 AR in FZ7, I think FZ5 don't have it

Anyway the choice is up to you ;p

yup fz5 dosen't have 3:2 oni 4:3
i think 10fps movie will be quite laggy, and most ppl will end up using 30fps which is memory consuming :bsmilie:
for 4R print using ISO1600, maybe you could try out, if it is nice, more people will go for it

Yeah, maybe will try to print something next week :)

congratulation...on ur new buy....
