ok.. this is a total noob question. Is there a fix aperture to shutter speed combination for the camera? e.g. if i wan F3.2 and 1/2000 speed is it possible with proconsumer? I tried on my FZ18 and i set the shutter speed to 1/2000 (shutter priority) and the aperture value somehow becomes very high F8.. is there a mode where I can set the speed and aperture freely?

Next question is, last night i tried to take pic of the moon. The moon appeared on my lcd but after i press my shutter, i only got a black screen. I tried shooting water at home but some shots are black totally.. I had to use certain setting in order to take the pictures. Is it normal?

Lastly, when i tried to shoot something which is near the sunlight, I get vertical pink / red lines on my lcd screen. Point away and they are gone. I did not try to take any pic with the lines and I was thinking whether it's normal or something wrong with my lens.. if it's normal, then what are the solutions u guys are using?

#1 & 2, I suggest you go to the nearest library and read up on photography books.

This is normal. I posted this question sometime ago but couldn't find it now. Something to do with the light source and the LCD screen. If you take a picture, you won't find any lines when you review it.

U shld be able to do it under Manual mode.. However, u need to understand the relationship between aperture, shutter speed & exposure...
Just like what ExplorerZ suggested, read more books especially those related to aperture, shutter speed & exposure one... you will find your answer inside... ;)

or google lor.. now we in era of the www ah... :)

So where is selling the cheapest FZ-18? Whats the price? ;p

Hey guys

Just asking how many of you guys got the FZ18 already? Im 1 proud owner, but having some problem understand how to use it to its full. Im going to try asking panasonic to start a workshop for us. Another thing, do u think its needed to buy a UV protector filter? Is a Infrared filter the best way to take shots at very bright outdoor areas?

No, i don own one, but one of my friend just bought his few days back.
don think they will org one unless there is quite a number of people requesting.
UV filter... up to you, but i rather spend the few bucks than damaging my Leica lens if im in your shoe

:dunno: do you even know what IR filter is used for?

from wikipedia... :)
An infrared filter is a filter to remove visible light and only pass infrared light in different wavelengths. These are mainly used in infrared photography.

what types of pics it can produce....also in this forum....

IR filter for IR photography. There is a section here on IR photography. You may do some reading up there. I think you are refering to Polariser filter? It reduce light and reflection.

If you need further light reduction, use a ND filter. Go to www.hoyafilter.com and read up what's the function of different filters.

I bought a Hoya HMC UV filter for my FZ18 last week for len protecton. Can't remember how much (think less then $20) but all in all total $80+ for a UV, cir polariser and IR R72. Remember it 46mm tread if you want to mount it directly to the len.

For bright outdoor shot, try lowering the exposure to -1/3 EV for a start.

Lastly, beside knowing your camera strength and limitation, it is of equal importance to learn photo editing software.

Waa sounds Good!! how are the pic taken with the IR R72? I read from some other forums that must buy a adapter to fit in ? Anyway where did u buy from?

Dunno yet no time to try it out and not anytime soon...

The LA3 Panasonic adapter are meant for mounting Tele and wide converter. You won't need it if you only want to mount the filter only.

Bought those filters at MS Color. Got to pre-order coz 46mm not much in demand. :bsmilie:

Hi to all, for those proud owners of FZ18, may I inquire how satisfied are you with this camera's performance? Any problems encountered? I am thinking of getting one so need some advice. Thanks! :)

Can you upload a picture here of the camera with the 46mm filter.
I like this ability to fix a filter directly onto the lens without needing adapter.
An adapter fixed to camera body makes the camera ugly and clumsy.
So many other manufacturers try to earn more $ by forcing users to buy an adapter to fit the filter. It is a cheapskate low class trick to earn a few $ more.
They cut cost too, by not providing the filter screw thread to the lens barrel.

I dun hab a camera to shot my FZ18 currently. The other 2 cam i have is out on loan. AW 46mm filter screw directly to the len. It will retract together with the len when power off. You won't even notice it's there. :bsmilie:

LA3 is ONLY needed if you intent to mount converter. If you intent to leave it with the cam when not using ur converter then it fit filter tread size 55mm.

U r rite... y can't Panasonic design FZ18 len tread 55mm solve all problems...

hi, do you mean that attaching a filter to the cam will not need a adapter and in that case attaching a filter to it will not increase its size?

well if it is made to 55mm,
1) the lens barrel will be much much larger... probably like the old fz20 (google up if you want to see it)
2) if it is screw on the outer most lens barrel (the non-moving part) it probably need to be very far so that the lens inside can full extend...
