Fungus on Industar-61-L/D?

Hi all,

Was just holding my Industar 61-L/D 55mm/2.8 up to the light and noticed 2 types of specks on, in the lens itself.

1) 2-3 black specks looks like tar colour... located inside the inner glass elements

2) 2-3 shiny specks on the inside glass elements... Only visible when held up to the light. At first, I thot they were bubbles in the glass!

The outer surface seems alright with no scratches. The glass is generally clear and not cloudy at all.

Question: Is this fungus? Will it affect the output or lens performance in any way?

Anyway, I bought this 2nd hand bundled with a FED-5 and the previous owner showed me a few sample shots that looks rich and vibrant...I hope that I've not bought a lemon. >_<

Otherwise most likely are dust don't have to worry abt it. When you focus, it will throw it out of focus and doesn't affect the image quality. Otherwise, you have a superpowerful micro organic macro len

Industar 61L/D is very good isn't it?

Of cos must be cheap and professional lah... haha...

Get a air tight tuppleware ard $6, a can of silicon gel abt $3-4 put it in and no worries. Cleaning itself is abt $30-120 itself, u can buy a new FED.

I left my lens and equipments in the Dry box around 40% humidity and I left singapore for about a yr.

After a yr, I was so surprise that there are fungus in all my 4 canon lens... The box has not done its job.

Can anyone advice me why is it that under 40% humiity and fungus will still grow in my lens..

Please advice.

Yes, this happens sometimes. So dry air on its own will not guarantee that no fungus will grow. But without silica gel, dry cabinet, or air conditioning to provide dry air, you are almost certain to get fungus in our tropical humid climate.

So what else can you do besides providing a dry storage environment? Well some regular TLC or tender loving care is supposed to help. What on earth is that when referring to camera lenses? Well some people say that taking cameras and lenses out occasionally, playing with it, clicking it, focusing and zooming the lenses, etc, will help. Why it is so, I am also baffled. But I do hear of people who's got a lot of equipment in their dry cabinet, and found out that those equipment they never touch for a long time tend to develop fungus growth whereas those pieces they do use occasionally are free from fungus. All in the same dry box!
