OK, my first attempt on IR, don't know whether I got it right. DS & FA 28-70 f/4.

IR shooting is a little more deliberate, so a lazy Saturday would be good. Drinks with fellow Pentaxians would be super and it would be a good time to run through how to use the IR filter.

Off topic, I was scouring eBay and there are some China sellers selling IR filters at about US$17 including shipping (52mm). The Hoya R72 cuts off at 720nm wavelength. The online offerings come in 850nm and 950nm. Just ordered one to test. :bsmilie:
Yar, I'll definitely organise a Sat morning one in Sep.

Hopefully can get everything settled for my studies before then, so can shoot without any care. :bsmilie:

Ah, the cutting off terminology not too sure, but allows more light through or less? If less then you'll get less colour, more means get more colour, but a blend of normal colour and IR colour.

Looks very good! WB is spot on.

A few more stops of exposure would be good though, but as for all photography underexposure is easier to correct than over; can do a lot of other things based on personal preference, like, channel swapping (channel mixer, blue channel blue 0 red 100, red channel blue 100 red 0, green channel green 0, red and blue add up to 100, mix on taste). Shadows/Highlights in IR also very forgiving, and since the scene is surreal in the first place doesn't really matter if there is haloing, so long as not too visible.

Thanks night86mare. Did a custom WB with a WB filter.

I think to do more things with the pic, i need to brush up my PS first.:D

That's interesting, never heard of that before, usually just use green grass in sun.

Maybe the K10D users can try that too.

Well... It definitely looks better and more correct than my first 1..2...3...4 attempts...

Very nice! Must show how you do it. WB looks good.

For WB, I used a WB filter to custom instead of the green grass mentioned by night86mare. The shooting part is quite standard. The Raw files, I opened it in pentax photo laboratory and select the white clouds for the grey point setting. Used the PSE5 to run a auto Level after that.:)

mmm.you mentioned WB alot. Can't we use auto WB? If use manual, I assume you used the grass for reference? Can we use a coffee filter instead?
Also curious, the filter I noticed from the shop is black in colour, can you actually see anything in the view finder? Getting intrigued..:)
cheers

Cannot, for some reason the information when using manual - rendering a very very reddish colour - some of it will be lost and unretrievable. So if you want the tones/textures that istDES is getting, you would need a custom WB, don't have to be spot on, can correct in RAW, but close enough is better than using Auto. =)

You cannot see anything in the viewfinder with the filter on. That's why need to compose first before screwing on the the filter.

CPL - Circular Polarizing filters, can be used to block out any unwanted reflection in glass, water etc. You can also use a polarizer to control the colour of the sky, ranging from light blue to dark blue/grey.

Great shot. The bike balances the composition very well. Nice retro racer, especially the bullhorn handlebars.
