Thanks for the replies. Hlw8888, I did saw your list earlier, very helpful.

Tried out the S5800 at the IT show today, the stabilization isn't as bad as I thought, even at maximum zoom, the picture I took looked much better than those I had on my old W1...

If I can get one S5700 at the low $200s, may try it out and slowly learn more about using manual controls then. Starting slow.

the stabilization mode will push up the ISO if the surrounding lighting is not so good for ur shot. but up to ISO 800, the colour is still acceptable except for noisy pic quality. if hit ISO 1600, the pic colour is quite faded but think is till usable for 320x240 size.

if u dun mind 2nd hand camera, and able to offer $250, i think this guy can sell u his S5700.

yup. seeing his pics, i kinda feel ashamed of letting down a good camera. :embrass:

Read more books on photography, very key is by just getting the basics right with the understanding how ISO, shutter, aperature interacts and produces diff effects to a picture. This would alone produce a decent picture.

Then focus on composition of the picture.

Shoot more and have fun ;p

Hi all, for those who still wanna get s5700, I saw a s5700 at compass point selling @ $399. It's at the basement photo development shop along the Famous Amos row. :)

If I am not wrong, the shop is "Standard Photo" :)

no offence but it seems abit costly. MS COLOR selling 5800 for 380

No offense at all. I came across this thread and just post what I saw, since some people are talking about the s5700 had been replaced by 5800 and was looking for it. :)

s5700 is really for ppl with very tight budget.
Else, should get something better.
I dun really recommend buying this camera becuse of its specs.
No offence, but i used to own this camera before and i know its limitations

it does very good macro though
limitations-wise.... hate the noise if set on auto mode =(

This camera is for those on budget and "mai hiam buay pai" ppl. :)

I guess its good for beginner to learn the basic with this cam? I found that the controls and buttons are quite straight forward, not too much for someone who just started out like me haha ^^'' still experimenting with the cam and currently enjoy it very much ^^

I got one problem though, the pics appear brighter on the cam LCD, but became like 2 steps down when I transfer to my mac, and my mac is some how brighter then the desktop by another 2 steps ^^''' May I know how to solve this .

calibrate ur monitor :)

Thanks thanks^^ I calibrate already ^^'' hope the pics came out fine haha

hey guys..i'm looking to make a small upgrade from the S5700....will S6500fd or S3is be a better choice?

really depends on your needs and how deep your pocket is.
but if since u alrdy zoom down to these 2 cameras (without letting us know the price also), i would say go for the S6500fd for its low iso noise.

it's been a long time since i came here after switching to a DSLR. Here are some pics taken by my S5700 yday. :)

a little editing in the exposure of the pics.

yup i think the price is cheap.... i am thinking of 6500fd... but now this model is out... don't know which one to choose now?
i saw bargaincity selling at sgd379. but for 6500fd is about sgd600. any advice?

6500fd is a far superior cam to s5700; great low light capability that s5700 looses out. I have one finding a new home, has to go. pm me

anyone can tell me how to capture nice portrait(people) picture in house or room because as my experience, the photo got a lot of noise.

or someone can show some example as a reference.

or setting (may be i set wrong parameters)

like any other compacts, S5700 due to its small sensor, indoor pics will tend to be noisy.

perhaps u can show us an example of ur indoor portrait shot to see how noisy it is. or u can tell us wat settings u use so that we can help to see if there's any settings that need to be tweak. :)

example i found on flickr:http://www.flickr.com/photos/22856604@N05/2317613544/

not full resolution so it's quite hard to judge if it is really noisy. but u can still take a look at the exif to compare with urs.

bummppp up this treat =D for a nice budget camera
