On the battery issue, AA batteries are crap for cameras like these.

Let's see how the battery for this camera turns out before saying things like "too bad" etc etc.

does anyone know if the flash hotshoe supports ttl or a 'dumb' one?

I guess we will have to wait for the camera's manual to be released.

The S9600 couldn't TTL with external flash.

Apparently, only the Fujifilm DSLR (the S5 PRO etc.) can TTL with Nikon flashes.

A dream come true!

The preview specification looks good. But that will depends on reviews and how user friendly the cam shall be in terms of accessibility, functions, handling etc. I do hope the lens will be good enough not to be too sensitive to flare, ghosting and purple fringing. Barrel distortion and pincushion to take into consideration to at full wide and tele.

Yes, have to wait.

The Olympus SP 560-UZ 18x superzoom also had very impressive specifications (except a crappy 1/2.5" normal CCD) and generated widespread interests when it was first announced but eventually, the focusing speed in low light and lens distortion (from some pictures posted in the Olympus sub-forum at Clubsnap here, pin cushion was every serious at full zoom) were really a let down. Apparently, in the US, many people rushed to buy the camera based on the specs and eventually returned it within the return-back period. That what also why the SP 570 UZ came out within 6months to replace it. Even then, the improvements only mitigate some of the problems inherent in a small crappy sensor and a super long zoom lens.

The Sony R-1 was also a superb camera but such cameras couldn't last and didn't do very well in sales because the price point wasn't right .....paying the price of a DSLR but getting a DSLR without the flexibility of changing the lens.

Amazon.com is taking pre-order for delivery around 20 April at US$799.95 (about S$1,140). I guess this price point is for the enthusiastic early adopters (just like for computer graphic cards, CPU etc.) and those who would like to lay claim that they're one of the first few to buy this camera.

But what a superb lens the R1 has!

Similarly, you could buy the Panasonic L1 in the US via Amazon, and what a lens the Panasonic L1 has, and with a larger sensor and better camera overall.

Well, For DSLR you can use a super fast F2.8 zoom lens which captures a lot more light than a normal zoom lens, though it is very heavy and costs $$$$$. Using F2.8 with telephoto, you can achieve the subject in focus and background blurr effect better.
It all depends on your needs.

Just read some write-ups on this Fujifilm S100FS in the Chinese papers, retailing at S$1099.

its out already?

No word that it's out at the shops, but it just indicated that the RRP is 1099. Kinda costly... not to mention it weighs close to a kg! With its acclaimed sensor, I think this camera is out head-on with entry-level dSLR buyers.

wow. out in hk. means should reach sg next week. :D

the pics seems not bad sia.

:thumbsup:pix in B&W for ISO 1600, wonder how they'll fair in colour for high ISO:think:

Get an DSLR manz, no turning back, I seldon use my s6500 now.

I think he places all photos according to iso. So can see from the url, the night street shots were at iso 1600. Compare that to the undisputed small sensor high iso king f30 which he also had posted, the s100fs seems to be outdoing the f30 at iso 1600.

looks like fuji has not overcome their problems with purple fringing.

ya, i suppose this is especially so for its internal zooming cameras. at least for my S5700, this is the case. :(

Frankly, at this pricing, I doubt this S100FS can sell well for long as it only appeals to a very niche group of people who are willing to pay about/nearly S$1,000 for a prosumer camera.
