FujiFilm F50fd Sample Pics for technical discussion - Unedited, straight from camera

fujifilm still ahead of others, the choice is clear.

Is it better to take the pictures at 12M Fine then resized it to 6M or set the camera to take at 6M?

Hi Parka,

The camera was set at Aperture Priority actually, so this is what the camera automatically set itself (I found the shutter speed odd also).

To answer your second question abt the IS, it tends to be a mixed bag, I would say you will get AT MOST a 2 stop advantage than w/o IS, and even with the IS I would say the performance of the CCD-shift still needs quite a little bit of work, as compared to Canon's IS (I was seriously considering Canon's Powershot IS 710) or Nikon's VR in their compacts.

It could also possibly be due to my hands being very shaky, its quite hard to get a proper grip on such a small fella and I do have rather large hands. However, the high ISO capabilities of the camera more or less makes up for the somewhat unimpressive performance of the CCD-shift.

I have this camera. It takes better pictures than Canon or most Sony P&S. The only major problem is the IS. It does not work very well; especially for macro. Without IS and with AE mode, F2.8 or about 4.5 for telephoto, it is a fantastic camera for $430! The other minor problem is the LCD image - pictures appears as over exposed; sometimes you can see a vertical line e.g. taking sun rise. But not to worry; see the auto focus boxes and just point and shoot. The result is always ok.

just joined this band, got this over my old good P150 (spoiled and so have a replacement unit with kind of extended warranty things... ;) with some topup) consider it over canon and panasonic.. while undoubtly this could not match the f31 in terms of picture quality.. but it still does fairly excellent job comparing to other brands as mentioned by many.. its pretty new.. but could anyone here advise over its build quality since i seems to have spotted some stuck pixel over the lcd~ :(...

Got it during the GSS, still exploring. Here's mine:

Exposure time: 1/30 s
F-number: f/2.8
Camera Mode: Lanscape Mode
ISO: ISO 200
Flash: Off

Another one:

Hi All, my F31FD just bid me goodbye. To repair is abt $288 now. Im thinking of changing my cam to F50FD, any comments?

This Japanese website has done an excellent job in comparing F31fd and F50fd. Without a shadow of doubt, F50fd is noisier. But the difference is minimal.

So either both cameras are junk or both are jewels. It is very strange to claim one is a piece of jewel and the other a piece of junk. I guess people are talking up one and talking down the other for better resale value.

F50fd is noisier than F100fd (and others, including DSC-W200) but it is a lot sharper. It has more to do with the less aggressive processing engine than the sensor. It is better to have photos that are closer to RAW and do post-processing using photoshop.

F50 has shorter battery life because of the smaller capacity, not really due to the dual image-stabilizers.

My guess is that with the competition from Lumix LX3, the gap is narrower. Any body has both LX3 & F50fd to post comparisons??

i am currently using f31fd. but i seems to be dying on me..

Saw many great pics here. but i am thinking of f50/60 is comparable to f31fd? or would f100 be better (less manual controls)?

Any comments between the f50 and f100?

cheers.
