FUJIFILM announces FinePix X100

OH MY GOD!!!!!!

I am going to spend one full day at the Fuji booth!

You sure it won't rebrand as the "V" brand outside Japan?

in view of this new Fuji camera, would it be better to get this as a 35mm focal length or is it better to get a 35mm cron on the M9.. (I just got a M9 with a 50mm lens)..

That's still a P&S; If given only one choice, I'll buy lenses for M any time. Usually your lenses don't depreciate, when M10, M11, M12..... come out, you still can use. If can afford, I might buy both cos there're times you just don't want to bring a M.
But that's just me.

this kind of things need to ask or are u trying to show off u got a M9? duh.

I really don't think Dan003 is trying to show off or anything like that. I think he has a valid question. If I got a M9 & I'm thinking of getting a 35mm as second lens, suddenly this sexy beast came along & got everyone so excited, I'll also be considering....BUT putting things into perspective, this is still a digital P&S, soon, there'll be X101 or X200.....:)

A camera with no IS, large body (127 × 75 × 54 mm) and no interchangeable lens would find it hard to compete with the latest model of m4/3 or NEX

The best way to compete is a low pricing + brilliant IQ.

you are actually quite wrong. As apple has shown, style goes a long way. It's ipod was technically inferior to creative's player, but the white color, jog dial etc put it where it is now..and look at where creative is today? I always quote this when pple like to compare specs. This cam is pure style.

This cam dun need IS. Many of us might have IS lens, but we can do without it. This camera also do not have a mirror slap which means u can shoot at a lower hand held speed.
Interchangeable lens do not mean much. I can shoot almost anything with a 35mm. For tele etc, there's always a SLR. And most importantly, the NEX or M4/3 do not have a built in viewfinder. Put a EVF on them and i wonder why don't i use a SLR instead. Cheaper, faster and better.

The pricing will not be low. It utilize technology that isn't expensive though. The APS-C technology is very mature and the chip set is not expensive. Still, I reckon it's easily >1.5K and pple will glady pay for it. Fuji will not charge low since they currently have this market to themselves only.

But wat really got me excited is that fuji has open the floodgates. Given by what goes on in the internet forums today, i am sure all the camera makers will hold a meeting tml to design the next similar type of camera. Give it another 8-12 mths , we will see similar cameras at better prices and specs and hopefully design.

2011-2012 will be interesting.

for someone who plonked down >10K into a camera and maybe another 5K for the 50mm, he must be into some serious photography or he just got $$ to burn and needs an expensive camera as a status symbol. If he is willingly to spend so much and is into photography only, do u think he seriously dunno whether he need a 35mm leica lens or this and need to ask here?

If he is the other type of photographer ( ie, status ) then isn't my statement valid? think about it.

Money is relative. Then 2.3k into a point & shoot is also something like what you said-burning away $$. Just as you've mentioned in your previous post about Apple Product- all about style, in-thing, must have thing, isn't that also a little bit like show-off. I need to be with the crowd. But as a RF user, I may still buy the X100 cos it looks & operates like RF-aperture ring etc:) Logically, I'm actually burning money away cos soon, there'll be X200, X300 & competitors will coming out with similar product, etc, etc...
BTW, many Leica or RF users are not into serious photography but enjoy photography.:)

er. ok. whatever you say, though i do not see the relevance of what you say to what i say.
If u are so annal as to point out the difference between "serious photography" and "enjoying photography", then i must also point out that there is no such thing as " money is relative". There is only " wealthy is relative" or " expensive or cheap is relative" in which case, i am trying to tell u that, wealth being relative or not, his question hung in the relatively unknown spectrum between being pure, harmless inquiry or being an ostentatious showcase in which i am inclined to believe that is the latter due to the fact that the equipment he is using already answer the question i am posing but i still wish to point it out to the less intellectually able.

Sorry, I very stupid, you very intellectual, you win!
Maybe, I need to qualify: enjoy RF photography
BTW it's anal.....and yes, I'm someone with anus. Can discharge so non-toxic. ;)

I like the fact that they really seem to have a zero compromise attitude towards image quality. If the 23/2 was really designed from the ground up by Fujinon optics designers(their hallmark being their EBC Broadcast lenses for vidcams) I have zero doubts the lens will be a stellar performer.

Aperture ring, Shutter speed dial, EV dial that does nothing but control EV. This makes the X1 looks poorly by comparison....

What excites me more is that no company will only use 1 sensor for 1 camera. the R&D dollars doesnt make sense this way.Mark my words, the S6/7 is currently in the pipeline.........

getting all sexcitied until the 150,000yen pops out.

I LOL'ed.

Yeah, googled somewhere it's 1750 USD retail. Still worth over X1 though.

1. I agree Fuji X100 appears better than Leica X1.

2. At USD 1750, lol I dun think RF people will buy. USD 1750 can buy a very good leica lens. lol, if I got USD 1750 I can buy a CV Nokton 50mm F1.1 and filter and still got cash to spare.

3. No interchangeable lens breaks deal for me. A key ingredient to m4/3 and NEX success is the interchangeable lens. The lens is where the real fun is. If this fuji x100 dont have swappable lens capability, other brands will come onto market with that capability soon.

I dont think that is showing off? I dunno, my opinion or maybe you have mind reading powers behind the screen?

I see no harm in asking coz honestly, the X100 cost about SGD2300+, one can get a M mount lens to pair up with their current body.

Assumptions assumptions assumptions..... mother of all f ups..........
