thanks for the link!

Hopefully we shall see it in stores soon enough.

I ran noise reduction tests with Noise Ninja and LR3 and one can polish up the 6400ISO images nicely, with the RAW file the control will be much higher

surfing around, i found most stores in Japan has a launch price of Yen 115,800, that would be around SGD1,770! There goes my hope of getting it in Japan. :(

Anyone preorder already and when is it expected to reach here?

Thanks

Seriously, guys. Apart from portability and beautiful design, I don't see why this camera is so attractive... It's just normal APS-C sensor. How different do you expect it to be from other cameras with APS-C sensors? Furthermore, it comes with a fixed lens (Seriously?). Other than some legendary photographer who shoots with a single prime lens for most of his life, I have never seen anybody else who can live with just one prime lens.

In terms of portability, however, this X100 has many very competent rivals, such as the Sony NEX series, the Samsung NX series, the Lumix GF series, which all come with interchangable lenses.

So I guess it all boils down to the beautiful external design then... Maybe the viewfinder adds a few more scores... But considering it's price, I highly doubt that these few scores can make much of a difference.

Or maybe you guys are just darn so rich...

....the FINEPIX X100 will get a world wide BESTSELLER :)

why:

outstanding IQ
the lens is TOP of the TOP
etc. etc...

The price is very fair!!

you can not compare the X100 with the plastic-toys, plastic-lens NEX or LUMIX, Samsung etc....!!!

When you are used to a prime lens and focal length, you will already have a mental picture of the frame before you hold up the camera.
The shutter sound from what I heard on youtube videos is much quieter than the NEX. Once I asked a sales person why the shutter sound is so loud on the NEX. He told me that Sony purposely make it loud to emulate the sound of DSLR so as to make you feel like you are a professional. I was like... and .

Totally agree.........I will buy an 35mm L lens for my 5D2 instead.

It's a interesting camera. Still waiting for the retail price to be out.

called up CP, no idea when coming in except somewhere in March and no indication ofprice.

Have to agree with you somewhat but what drives me up the wall with the gf/ep/epl/NEX and compacts is the absence of an optical viewfinder. The electronic ones are too jerky and manual focusing on them doesn't feel good at all

Agreed. For that matter, most lack an in-built EVF and the external EVF for both PEN and Panny are ugly and bulky, like carrying an extra lens. The X100 is not for the simple enthusiasts or for those who are used to PnS. When I consider the occasions when I needed a camera I had none with me because I found it troublesome carrying my camera bag. The X100 suits serious DSLR users that require similar IQ compact camera and the price point of the X100 is about the minimum I would have to pay with a good APS-C DSLR with a 24f2 lens. So, if the X100 proves to be as good in IQ as a good APS-C DSLR, I will buy and it will be with me 100% of the time.

does the phase detection AF actually works??

anyone has any hands on report on this?

oh I just realised that the X100 does not have phase detection, it is the F300EXR....

seriously, you guys must try out contrast detection... with the f2 lens, AF is pretty impt and I think contrast detection does not work with ANY MOVING object.

Until they get a working AFC for contrast detectin, I think DSLR is still better.

So you are saying that the Continuous Tracking AF of all the current mirrorless system cameras which use contrast detection AF, like Olympus PEN, E-PL1/2, Sony NEX 3 & 5, Samsung NX, Panasonic GF & GH cameras actually does not work at all ?

I have the NX10 and I am sure it doesn't work or at least to the level that it is actually useful.

I am pretty sure that is the case too for NEX and Oly. I am not sure for panny as I heard their contrast AF is pretty good but I doubt it is that level yet.

Kind of curious, which contrast AFC detection do you think is functional?

For me functional means to be able to TRACK a moving object and that usually mean predictive focus.
