Fuji X100 - Part 2

Greetings to all. I am considering to purchase x100 as an everyday camera, as I find it quite troublesome to bring a DSLR out every now and then.
However one thing that's having me double take on this camera is the performance of auto focus at near distance is quite bad, apart from the superb image quality it renders.

So to all you who owns the x100 here. Can you tell me how efficient now is the accuracy of the auto focus issue at near distance with the firmware update to 1.13?

if taking pic of close subject, just simply switch to marco and use minimum f4. taadaa!! you get a sharp image.

Hi x100 users, i wanna get reliable & not too expensive 3rd party batteries.. where is the best place/price to get them?

and one problem i faced that i wanna seek help, i bought the shutter bug mini soft release (the red ladybird one sold at chiif) and i release that the original brown case when closed will actually press the button down, worried that it might damage the button in long term.
any solutions to solve this? other brands of buttons? or means i can't use the case anymore?

i use the soft shutter release from de camera consulant and no such problem. however the shutter bip is not as fanciful as yours.

If I can shoot a wedding without major issues, then it is really a matter of not of camera problem but of biting bullet and learn how to master it.

Too much noise over focusing issue. If it is, then ALL of the x100 owners would have throw the x100s at the Fujifilm building. I am pretty tired of people asking the same o. Just google pictures for x100 and ask. If those picture can be sharp, then the camera can focus. If the people keep making noise about focusing, what gives? then what about those who CAN focus?

As for efficiency, i would say 75% man 25% machine. Force the camera to focus where you want to focus. If you don't know what I am saying. Fix the focusing box in the centre and then focus and recompose your shots. Is it the most accurate? nope. Does it affect shots? Unless you are using sumicron F0.95 lens. Most shots at F2 at that distance is not that bad unless one pixel peeps.

I am sorry that you are in the firing line because this was asked quite a lot of times. And the same will happen to those who can't force themselves out of the DSLR focusing and they will also sell the XPro1. I guess I was correct judging from the BnS section.

With the above said. the Firmware 1.2 have done a great service to the x100 focusing issue by improving it immensely even the MF.

+1 I have no problems with that too. However since I change to horusbenrru half case, I don't use my full case as much.

Dear users,

I intend to get the x100 but dont mind settling for the x10 due to many reports of sticky shutter in the x100.

Am I overworrying about the sticky shutter occurence? Eg, will warranty cover the error etc?

Kindly advice?

All things equal, I very much prefer the 100.

Regards

I'm sure it does since this is a manufacturing fault. The issue seems more to be poor service at fuji.

Thanks for the reply.

May I know how long the warranty covers this lens shutter problem for?

Assuming from date of purchase.

Also, have you experienced the problem yourself?

How long did the repairs take and did it permanently solve the issue?

Regards

I got this problem about half a year after I bought the X100. However service at Fuji for me was excellent! Took my set in to repair during the CNY period and was told they will need at least 3 weeks to rectify. Ended up they took only 2 weeks and changed the entire lens assembly for me and it is perfect ever since! Think if you buy the newer batch they would have solved the problem already.

It is a beautiful camera that takes superb pictures! Go buy it!

Thanks for the reply!

May I know if the complete lens assembly cost was covered under the warranty?

I also read that newer production batches, the serial numbers start with 21 and onwards.

Could anyone confirm this?

Also, what did your camera serial number start with?

Regards

My serial starts with 21 and its the new batch. :)

Great! What accessories did you get?

-a hood
-a filter and an adapter for it
-soft shutter button?

Just got a JJC lens hood with adapter and extra spare battery for it. :)
Mine came with a few free accessories too.

Serial no starting with

11 = 2011, quarter 1
12 = 2011, quarter 2
13 = 2011, quarter 3
14 = 2011, quarter 4
21 = 2012, quarter 1
22 = 2012, quarter 2

so on and so forth.. If your x100 reads 21xxx, yours is from new batch naturally. after 31st Mar 2012, yours will belongs to old batch because 22xxx serial number starts its run.

BTW it does not means that the older batch will have sticky blade problem. the problem does not affect every x100.

Thanks for the info. What type of filter goes onto the lens? The normal 49mm screw-on type right?
