MF + AEL/AFL button. That's the fastest solution. MF using focusing ring? Don't bother.

In poor light you have to turn the screws off the focus ring to get the focus to where you want.

In good light the MF works very well. Too well if you ask me, since a small turn usually causes the focus to overshoot.

Hence to make use of the MF on the X100, it is better to adopt a "Focus, Anticipate, See, Shoot" style of shooting than just "See, Focus, Shoot". Of course, it also depends on what you are trying to shoot in the first place. I also use MF on flowers or bugs if it is too small or windy to autofocus properly.

hello guys!

im always having over-exposed shots when im using my X100.. settings are auto ISO(max3200 & min 200) min shutter speed at 1/100, DR 100%. EV dial at 0. metering at multi. shooting at aperture priority mode.

somehow the shots always turn out to be much brighter than what it actually is.. the only way for me to rectify it is to turn the EV dial to -1 and sometimes -1 1/3... am i doing something wrong? or is the camera set up this way?

photos always turn out correctly exposed if the EV dial is at -1 or -1 1/3.. please help me! i hope its not sticky aperture :(

mine having the same problem, had try many difference setting until i got very frustrated.
in the end i send to fuji service center, most likely the lens issue keep my finger crossed &
hope to see my X100 back in life soon.

sorry to hear about your problem too..

can anyone confirm that this really IS a problem rather than it is just how the camera is built. i dont quite like the idea of sending in services center unless i really need to.. because i dont want them to change unnecessary parts and make the problem worst than it is now... :(

u can probably look at the front of the lens and half-press at f16 to see it the blades close down correctly.

Otherwise just progressively take a picture of a same point from f2 to f16 at aperture priority and fixed ISO, if it becomes increasing overexposed then u would need to send it in for repair.

yup i have tried both methods and it doesnt seem i have the sticky aperture problem.. photos are in constant exposure throughout the aperture ranges. anyother things i should look out for?

I guess your X100 should be fine, maybe some things to look out for is when you half press on aperture priority make sure the calculated shutter speed is not in red (usually happens when if u shoot f2-f4 in bright daylight). But I guess u should already know this one.

Another thing is I usually only have 1 setting in auto. If i'm shooting aperture priority either I let the camera decide shutter speed or iso but never both. As good as the electronics is i definitely wouldn't trust the camera to balance both settings correctly. Personally I don't use auto-iso at all, i don't think it is as precise as auto shutter speed.

If I'm not mistaken the camera tries to use the lowest ISO until the shutter speed reaches its preset limit before it bumps up the ISO. Eg. I have mine set at 1/60 shutter speed so when the camera can no longer properly expose with the current ISO, it will automatically bump it up to the next level.

One funny thing to note is that the x100 will use the last selected ISO setting as the base for auto ISO. So if you last manually selected ISO 800 and then switch to auto ISO, it will use 800 as the lowest ISO setting.... Dunno why it does that.

good to hear its not any technical problem.. prob just user problem eh haha. i will try and fiddling around with the settings and see how it goes

Oh yes, that's a good point. I have already completely forgotten about about the minimum ISO 'feature'..haha.

Any guess whether there would be an improved X100? I know there is a X Pro 1 (interchangeable lens) but what about an improved X100?

The worry about the sticky aperture blades issue just keep on holding me from picking up 1 :(

Anyway there's always warranty.

Some test shots I took. This camera had a bit of a learning curve for me, but once I figured out everything.. I'm falling in love with it more and more each day. :)

Straight out of the box it takes at least as good or better shots than my D7000 with my favorite 35mm f/1.8, and eats my GF3 for breakfast even with the superb Panny 20mm f/1.7. The performance at ISO5000 is insane! The shots were mostly RAW converted in LR3 with no post-processing of any sort.
