anyway, for those using the step up ring and 49mm filter, is there any VF obstruction?

You will see the filter in your viewfinder until you zoom in to about 85mm+/-.

Studio shot comparison: Digital Photography Review

Nice studio comparison ..

What's interesting if you compare X10 to older DSLR like Canon 50D, Nikon D3000, Nikon D5000. Roughly X10 at ISO 800 is as good or better than those cameras at ISO 1600. Taking into account many people use slow kit lens, about probably 2 stops less than the X10, then actually the X10 has about 1 stop better low light capability than the older DSLRs using kit lens. Quite amazing.

So if you assume that being kia su, and say your tolerance for X10 is ISO 800, and assume that you have a 2 stop advantage over DSLR with kit lens (due to faster X10 zoom), then roughly you have as good a quality as DSLR (with kit lens) shooting at ISO 3200 ..

I find I'm shooting most of my stuff without flash nowadays. In the past, with older Nikon DSLR, I confined myself to ISO800 with slower zoom lens. Once I went to ISO1600, the color drop was quite bad, so ISO800 was the limit. But with X10, even ISO1600 and 3200 are still ok in terms of color. At ISO 1600 and 3200 noise does come in, but a bit of post processing with noise reduction tools works fine. So now I'm getting better low light capability with X10 than with my older DSLR. Then again, those were like Nikon D70, D40 and Fuji S2Pro.

Yes it does up to 85mm. But with 40.5 (or 40mm) filter, only up to 50mm and even at 28mm much less. So I'm considering reverting back to 40mm filters once I get my Marumi 40mm filter. I ordered some .. waiting for it to arrive. For the time being, I've reverted to my cheapo Vitacon filter (which I got from Alan photo). But seem to be hardly any coating goes in about half round. I did try a 40.5 mm B+W filter but goes in less than quarter of a round. So the Vitacon fits a bit better, but far from perfect. Hopefully the Marumi can go in all the way and has decent coating and is black (note that Japan Exposures is selling a 40mm Marumi now, but its silver - see this link http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=502)

Not really sure, but I would imagine comparable to Hoya. I've searched all the forums and various places, so far only Marumi seems to have 40mm.

I actually ordered 5 pieces, cos to order just one, the shipping may not be worthwhile (probably the shipping cost as much as the filter). I only need two (one for use on X10, one spare). So I got 3 to let go if anyone interested (assuming it works).

My silver one from Japan Exposure on its way to Singapore (only ordered one as I did not like the silver). Arriving 7-8 days time. Black ones from 2filter no shipping advise yet.

will definitely be keen to have one. thanks for trying it out. willing to share the shipping cost with you.

Managed to get a NOS B+W 40mm MRC UV filter. Fits like a glove on the X10 front thread.
Only thing it's not a F-Pro mount...
