Fuji X-E1 and new compact coming! Thread II

I would not qualify this camera as blazing fast.....fast is my 5D MKIII with the 70-200. Using the X-E1 is like using the older model canons with a Sigma lens, it hunts quite a bit. But robinchee's advise about enlarging the focus area should be worth trying.

Actually i'm quite curious. under what kind of situations will it start to hunt? Cos usually when I half-depress the button, the beep sound comes on almost instantly, with the green box.

What is your DR setting?

I did observe that DR200 &400 then to underexposed the photo shown in histogram. Maybe it would be the jpeg engine is trying to maintain the highlight and shadow details

I also will not say that it is blazing fast.. Its one of the slower AFs in the mirrorless world..

OMD is damn fast but AF may not lock onto what u intended..

On the other hand, X-E1 focuses much slower but AF is more accurate..

It hunts during low light.. Especially if you turn off AF illuminator

I think that happens only in bright, high contrast scenes. Anything indoors with low light is a PIA. I am not sure whether you have used any DSLR with USM like focusing because your expectations are very low.

Hmmm ok. I guess I'll have to try out more night shots.

One issue I have is that the EVF lags making it very hard to focus manually. If you don't wait for the screen to respond when re-focusing, the image becomes OOF. Not good for fast MF lenses where critical focus is important.

yAH...got to live with it for now. Not really impossible becos im strictly using MF lenses right now. Normally when i finished with focusing..and half press to frame, the evf will lag..but i will ignore it and press full shutter..with imaginery framing..most of the time after i compose, framing movement is very slight...

So far so good...but i agree the evf lags...try a few more times bro...n then u will get use to it..

Yes, I think it is the worst EVF for MF compared to other mirrorless cameras' top offerings. Anyway, one gets used to it as you pointed out.

And for AF, I wonder why Fuji had to place the function of moving the square focus point under the AF button. This is really a cumbersome way and can slow one down, as if the EVF refresh rate was not enough pain :)

Looking forward to the 23mm f1.4. Any infor on the launch date :)?

Actually I am thinking or almost buy one. After seeing this. I think, I will think, think a bit more.

@dw8888:
I strongly suggest you go try it out at the shop, or better still try a friend's copy and get acquainted with it.
Take your time and play with it for no amount of mulling or reading spec-sheets online would help as much.

I was similarly worried about the EVF, manual-focusing and lack of 'peaking' as I was planning to use M-Mount lenses on it.
Turns out it works fine for me, frankly I am happy with the handling and focusing.

The camera does have its quirks, but it is also stellar in other areas such as IQ, high ISO performance, size, etc.
So you really do have to try it out and see if it suits your specific needs.
If you are interested in my personal thoughts on it, you can see here.

Hope this helps!

I agree with u.. my lux is fixed on my X-E1 most of the time... d XF 35mm f/1.4 Fujinon is a great lens though, i do use it once awhile. Cheers.

Does the EVF shows the focusing distance when using manual focus lens?

I'm having a problem with my XE1.

This morning, I put a fully charged battery into my camera. I left it in my car the whole day and when I turned it on again at 2030hrs, te battery was flat flat flat.

Anyone facing the same issue?

Yup. Just put a fresh battery in. Will see if it drains tomorrow morning. Wonder if I may have accidentally turned it on in the morning.
