hmmm...decision time....

How do you judge inferiority? By what the website says?

my concerns are the "orangey" red and the poor low light focus.....

Hmm.. I was quite disappointed at first. But I realised that they used the 6MP pic for comparison with G2's 4MP. Still dun understand why they used 6MP instead of the 3MP one. 6MP is interpolated, of coz the quality is inferior. :(

6MP is used because the 6MP image files captures (slightly) more details than the 3MP pics. Downsizing to 4MP might provide a better comparison :) Anyway, 6MP pics look great when printed.

Really? I always tot that the SuperCCD effect sort of degrade the quality. *Confused*

"SuperCCD works by combining pixels from the 45 degree pixel layout into a normal square pattern, this has the side-effect of producing more image pixels than were actually captured."

One more thing..

"Flash units that can be used with this camera must meet the following three conditions:
(1) The aperture can be set,
(2) External flash synchronization can be used,
(3) The ISO sensitivity can be set.

Does the above means that an external flash without all the above features will totally not work? Or it does work, just that the flash will full blast all the time???

by the comparisons with G2 pics, pictorially not just in words. But hmm azone, those are 6MP pics? I thought those are 3MP, thought that was what I read. If it's 6MP then it isn't that bad I guess....

not totally cannot work lor...
but that you can't control the flash I think. Cos the cam itself doesn't control the flash, it just sends a signal to trigger the firing. However, the flash must be set to match the settings of the cam, so it must be able to allow you to set aperture and ISO. If not, you won't get a correct exposure.

Most 3rd party auto flash can meet the 3 requirements what...so no worries! :D

I see i see..

Rem you have a third-party flash rite? It meets the above requirements? How much did you bought yours? Can it be tilted at different angles?

yup mine can, it's the Vivitar 285HV. Actually I bought it for the s602z, but wanted to use it on my c700uz first. Bought it at $140 at FotoGuide. Yup it can tilt for bounce flash, but it can't swivel. That's a limitation when you want to take portrait orientation cos you won't be able to bounce from the ceiling.

what I mean was those in comparison to G2, not those in the sample galleries leh. Are those in 6MP as well?

Yes, I was referring to the image which is compared side by side with the G2 pic.

I see.. thanks for the info. Coz I wanted to use the same setup (omni bounce) as mega for taking insects.

As Tweek mentioned, most 3rd party flash meets the requirements :) If cost is not an issue, you could consider the Metz 32 Z-1 (~$170 at Fotoguide). It could tilt up and swivel sideways but is less powerful than the Vivitar 285HV.

Thanks for the recommendation. Yup, will consider which flash to get later. Now lets wait for more reviews on S602. :)
