Nice try.

question what is it that you are trying to show her ?
Most of the pictures do not work as a portraiture, nor do they work as glamour and they are definitely not fashion.

Did you notice in picture 2 you have some serious distortion that's not good for portraiture work ?

they need more work pre clicking and during the shoot itself. But they are better than an snap shots.

Sorry, I'm just a newbie. Would learn and take better pics next time.

I agree with you its the photographer's fault and its not with using the wrong model. It is in not knowing enough and being to excited to shoot and not check.Done that been there.....when I get carried away or am very tired sometime I slip too. I am not claiming to be very good.

As a friend guesture I offer the basic advice - from the posted replies it appears as if he is open to suggestions as to how to improve. I suppose if one only wants to hear priases and nothing else there can be no reason to improve.

I agreed it's my fault. I didn't take note of the details, since you pointed out. I also don't know what I'm shooting. I just shoot. Would take note the next time.

I'm open to suggestions on how to improve. All bad comments are welcome. I'm here to learn. Thanks.

ellery, i suggest you better not say that. most of the photographers only wish to hear good remarks or else some immature one will say like: can you show me your masterpiece or your work so that i can learn from you; can you tell me how to do this or that, we need your professional advise. imo, i think it is the photographer's fault, wrong choice of models.

I'm open to all comments good or bad. Since I'm still a newbie, I here to learn from my mistakes and take better pics.

Was wonder what is the setting of your cam? What cam u r using to create that kind of distortion? I don't think my cam capable to achieve that...do u have any other photo to share? Maybe u just upload the wrong one only...

I using A85 manual mode, trying here and there. Distortion? What you mean? Which pic? Care to tell me more so I can learn.

Sorry gal I tink my tone may sound to harsh.

Fact if you do not have an idea what you are doing then it blind clicking - I think you know that. Try to decide what you are doing - ie fashion then shoot to creat what you deem is fashion. If it portraiture - the same. As to what is what, check out books on specific topics, check out magazines - hopefully not our local ones they tend to be confuesed too perhapse that is why a lot of us are confused.

You need to focus on more than the pretty face infront of you. the setting , the lighting, the clothes all count as they are in the picture.

Some things take some time as you have to learn to see - no one can really teach you how they most they can be is the finger that pionts the way. Each person "sees" in subtley different ways.

You may have tilted the angle too much and in wider than appropriate angle and or too close to subject. This type of shot in 135mm is better done using an 85mm and shooting wide open at 1.8. What you did looks like her head is bigger than her body which look compressed - what I see looks like a dwarf with large head. Sorry Nad - I am sure you look nothing like that in real life.

You could try the equalivalent focal length on yr a85 but I do no think u have 1,8 fstop setting there use the widest ie biggest aperature open you have - smaller number = bigger opening.

Hi Venom, for a newbie and with a P&S cam, the A85, i think you have done well. Don't be intimidated with the bad comments but instead try to understand what they are trying to tell you. Sometimes you can learn a lot from these bad comments, which I am sure they are not trying to be nasty but probably they couldn't express "nicely" to you. But personally I don't think you can do too much with this A85 because of the limitation it has and so my advice to you is to "ENJOY" in your shoots and post whatever images you would like us to see and if you can't stand the bad comments, just ignore them, but keep posting..... some members (for eg. >>> "student") give really GOOD but harsh comments.

and one more thing, never say SORRY to anyone here just because they think the photos are not their cup of tea. Don't be too apologetic. Be proud about your images but must accept that you can be better.

Its okie with me. I don't mind harsh tones. Basically that day I was just concentrating on the pic composition. Trying not to over/under exposed my pics. So didn't take note of other details.

My biggest aperature is just f2.8. Thanks for the advices. Will take note of them the next time. Thanks. :)

dude

good shots. and very encouraging to see that you tried it despite not using an SLR. keep it up.

and keep in mind also that personal preferences are just that. personal. meaning it will vary from one person to another. just because one person may not like or agree doesn't mean that others will not like it. :)

keep it up dude
