Oh, I forgot to add, Nikon ultra-wides (14-24, 17-35, 20, PCE24, etc) are awesome compared to Canon's.

Do you have extensive experience comparing the PCE 24 to TS-E 24? Interested to know what the results are.

The main thing for me is Nikon's much better built n MUCH tougher than Canon's stuff. I have many friends ( some professionals )who's using Canon n the main gripe is some times even the higher end bodies ( esp. 5D's mirror !) like 1 D ++ onwards breaks down quite regularly.

Me converted to Nikon Camp. From a Canon prosumer to a Nikon DSLR. :-)

1. Nikon is of much better quality than let's say any of the Canon camera bodies I have handled (10D,20D,30D,40D,50D,5D....). Can't say about 1D series thou.

in my opinion this would be true of the models starting below the 5D level. i would expect the 1D and 5D series to be of very good quality. i had horrible backfocusing issues with my 10D.

2. Metering system and flash system way ahead of Canons.

agree. love the nikon flash system. i got more consistent results using an sb800 with my 10D then i did with a 550ex. not to mention that spot metering is also available even on the D40. i've often wondered why canon so stingy about providing spot metering on their entry level bodies.

3. Auto-Focus accuracy in new breed of Nikon's is a killer. None of the Canon camera bodies I have mentioned above come even closer to these. Canon is no doubt faster to acquire the focus, but accuracy is something, which I have not been happy with Canon's.

true. easier to get sharp shots on nikon mid range bodies so far. i dunno about the 1D but it better be accurate.

4. High ISO noise from D700 is much-much better than anything I have ever used before. D300 is no slouch either in this department.

well..only starting from the D3 and D700. i have never been impressed with high iso noise on nikon. not even with the D200. hence my foray into nikon territory started off with a fujifilm s3 pro.

5. Commander mode in Nikon is god send. For the similar functionality in Canon, you have to spend extra $$ and carry one extra hardware to lug around.

yes indeed! its a joy to have commander mode with both built-in flash and my sb800.

6. I like colors from Canon better than Nikons. Having said that, I can simulate similar colors in Nikon in post-processing. Which is one extra step in the total processing.

again i prefer fujifilm colors although i love the D3 (and D700) colors as well. it was fujifilm colors and the s2 pro that got me started on the fuji/nikon path.

7. I like the quality control checks in Nikon more than Canon anyday. I always had problems with the cheap 50mm 1.8 from Canon (back-focus). But the similar lens 50mm 1.8 from Nikon works flawless.

ya man....thats what i like about nikon. even the entry level lenses are pretty good. canon gives you sh-it for entry level lenses. to get anything decent usually means spending money on a red line lens.

8. Out of 10 products I bought in last 4years from Canon, 4 of them had some problem or the other. One of my camera bodies went to Canon service center more than once for back-focusing/front-focusing problems. And they were not able to fix it 100%. I had to test four of the L series lenses in Canon to get a sharp copy. Again this the quality check issue I have already mentioned in point 7. I am yet to encounter any malfunctioning from Nikons.

i had backfocus problems with my 10d, 24-70 f/2.8L and 70-200 f/4L. so far so good for my nikon gear.

i'm still open to canon though. maybe a 5D MkII? after all i still have my 24-70 f/2.8L :bsmilie:

actually my heart nearly stopped when i found myself unscrewing the front part of my nikkor 85 1.4 instead of the filter.

Not definitive yet. Centre both ok. Corners PCE wins.

Welcome to the Dark side,

I was a SONY prosumer user (H5) and I own a Nikon D80 + D300 now. I agree with some of you who mentioned that once they hold the Nikon D300 and they wouldn't want to let it go. I have the same sentiment too. The curvature of the camera just make it perfect to hold, like a lady ;)

The looks of the Nikon D300 + MB D10 + any of the Nikkor lenses make it a perfect 'Chio Bu'. I bought the D300 in July and until today I am still admiring it's beauty. It is indeed a fusion of Art and Technology.

I am simply in Love with it

hmmm saw this interesting thread...so tot i join in.
waiting for 5d mark ii to hit the shores before deciding.

ergonomics is certain way better.. nikon is sexy.. lol.

2. Metering system and flash system way ahead of Canons.
yeah. i heard horror stories about canon flash systems. oh yeah did i mention nikon flash is cheaper too?

3. Auto-Focus accuracy in new breed of Nikon's is a killer. None of the Canon camera bodies I have mentioned above come even closer to these. Canon is no doubt faster to acquire the focus, but accuracy is something, which I have not been happy with Canon's.
yes no doubt the pro AF in FFs are undisputed.

4. High ISO noise from D700 is much-much better than anything I have ever used before. D300 is no slouch either in this department.
5D Mark II may just knock the crown off d700 though.

5. Commander mode in Nikon is god send. For the similar functionality in Canon, you have to spend extra $$ and carry one extra hardware to lug around.
dunno abt this one.

hmmm never tried nikon QA yet. lol if i get a d700 i will let u guys know. but Canon QA is really not to my expectations considering we spends thousands on camera equipments.

have horrid experiences with their svc ctr but i will not elaborate...

Well what i do like about canon is...
1. It's cheaper than Nikon. =D
2. got constant f4 lenses
. (travel light)

4. Hard to say if 5D MkII will really knock the crown off the D700. I mean the latest 50D wasn't that great an improvment IMO. But well, it's a MkII, you never know! *Nikon, where's our D3x!*

Yeah, to an extent, Nikon is more expensive than Canon, especially their higher-end lenses...

With shifting?

no. but with shifting even PCE24 has CA. There should be full reviews comparing both soon. The comparison is skewed as the TSE is 17 years old with 1 aspherical element while the pricier PCE has 3 ED elements, 3 aspherical elements, nano coating etc.

Sorry OT.

I liked Nikon because... I like the name :sweatsm:

and also the first camera the sales man trying to sell me was a Nikon F50 :bsmilie:

The D700 still blows my mind away even when my previous camera was a D2X

Well a few things I prefer about Nikon that nobody ever seems to say are

  1. Mirror and shutter sound (Go compare D40 with 400D)

Ha, you got it. I always find the shutter sound from Nikon a turn on ! well, many might say I am nuts but somehow the shoik feeling should be part of the factor (though not all or the one reason) in parting some much $ on a DSLR right ?! ;p

At least it's a natural sound, now like some plasticky creak :bsmilie:

I've been there and done that with Nikon F3 vs Canon New F-1 with motordrive. Simply love the Nikon sound. I think it's deliberately engineered to sound like how it is.

It's the nikon feel...

I remember when I 1st used my bro-in-law's canon 350D, I felt that the grip is'nt there. The comfort isnt there. until I tried holding & tested the D40, I felt like the nikon body has a better grip and comfort.

... then ofcourse not to mention the picture quality and the lenses.

now I'm using a D90, previously D60. ;)

hehe i guess the sentiments are the same throughout.

1. D300 for example feels good with just one hand.

2. One can't put down a D300 when you pick it up and shoot.
(In fact I would admire it when I have got nothing at home and just fix up MB-D10
and 14-24 to see see look look and feel the weight... ok I'm insane)

3. Not much of a fan of canon cause my hand is huge and my thumb will have
problem just turning the jog dial behind.

4. I fell in love with the shutter sound when I got my first D70s. So yeah.

Welcome onboard TS.

I am a newbie and among those have been mentioned, I like the auto ISO feature quite a bit at times.

Haha. Wait till you hold it for 8h straight. You want to throw it into the dustbin after that.
