my idea is to buy some hard black paper boards and then trace it on and cut it out so you have a non-flimsy hood that looks just a good!!!!! i just need more suggestions on how to secure it..... dont wanna gaffer cos i wanna remove the hood as and when i want to....

Very interesting site!!!

However, I was wondering. Canon supplies round hoods for lenses like 100-400 L and 70-300 DO together with the lens. Does Canon make petal hoods for these lenses as well?? If not, where did the petal hood design for these lenses on the website come from? Did they do it themselves?

Yupz, interesting cut-out hoods but i feel it doesn't match the originals of cos. Perhaps you can secure it by rubber band?

Maybe can improvise some sort of catch or slot to hold those tabs in place. I did thought of velcro LOL.

Maybe can try blue tack...

just wondering will cable tie work?

haha how to make huh? i cut out already but how to fit the lens?

Velcro it?

Use the 3M stick on Velcro and try it?
the 3m velcro is available at hardware stores. it has only teeth and doesnt latch onto any objects.

will the stick stain the exterior of the lens or something???? i wanna preserve the condition of the lens leh.... lol

Seems like there isn't much of a solution to 'attach' these lens hoods and preserving the condition of the lens.

Gaffer your lens first??
heehee

I havnt experiment on the lens hood yet. have to look for the plastic sheeting instead of cardboard for the hood. The cardboard for hood looks awful.
Will try to get it in the art shops or hardware shops.

I have the 3m Velcro, its great, the glue unfortunately cannot be removed. so i suggest protecting your lens with gaffer and velcro it. Althought your gaffer might not hold.

Either that, gaffer the whole hood to the lens, and when you dont need it, remove the gaffer.

lemme know the results!

But removing gaffers will leave marks right?
