Foveon X3 sensor user thread

Its been a while from my last post.
Since the DP1m is a special camera to me, I mainly use it as a backup as well as to get very good resolution shots or that Foveon look.

So finally got to use it more again for a recent trip to Japan.

Thanks.

I have got no interest in the DP1Q (unless its 24-20mm eq) :D
Like I mentioned in an earlier thread, no point chasing a "perceived latest and greatest" when I do think that the DP1m does what it does.
I don't need a more versatile 'same thing' that gives 'okish' ISO800.
DP1m is a ISO100-200 camera to me.
Kind of reminds me of shooting film last time ( even metering needs to be more careful using it since its shadows cannot be pushed as much as other cameras )

Nice one bro. Keep them coming!

I decided not to get the Quattro afterall. I feel there's not really that much of an improvement over the Merrills. I'll just hang around here to enjoy the pics.

I am using an used dp2m , very happy with the iq and have been doing a lot of stitching with it, thinking of wider lens may be better for that extra dof, have been wanting to get the dp1m but it seems hard to come by at b&s,if getting it as new (if the agent is still selling) ,might as well get the dp1q since the price is not much difference.:(

DP1m

I am still not brave enough to do it, but I got to just bring this camera out as my only camera for a month and see how it goes.
It most reminds me of shooting film, being aware of what I want to expose for and leaving out what is clipped.
Also, that incorrect (but nice ) color that so reminds me of film.
And the BnW too.

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.... in this case, the Dp1m! Do it bro!

Actually, it is not that difficult to use as your one camera for your own personal shoots.
On sunny days, it is totally capable.
The entire series "13 wilkie terrace" and "come fly with me to the land of giants" were shot with the dp1m.
But i also used a tripod for the low light shots eg. The flying dragon n colourful dragon in "a night at the opera"
In fact being fixed lens made it more fun to use as one has to compensate with leg work.
Here,s the link in case no one realised they were shot with a dp1m. http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1212029&page=3
And if colour fails, poor iso can somewhat be compensated by grainy black n white conversion if u can accept compromised imagevquality.

I think I'll start with one week :D
Actually used it for my recent trip to Japan.
I'd thought I already knew enough about the camera, but looks like I still got some ways to go wrt exposing the shots.

Putting up those shots soon when I get a chance to go thru them :)

Thanks for the link, :)
Yes, when in good light it certainly works great.

Looks like you got a good workflow for the colors.
Do you work in TIFF after SPP?

Yes, same as most who wish to tweak the colours. The usual bugbear using xf3, but i fail to match colours hence u get different shades of blue sky. Probably need to rework the colours for better match.
Looking forward to your dp1m shots.

Nice rich colours.

Is the SD1 body alone brand new at $1.1K before GST worth a try?
