Forum Optimisation?

you know..... with all the money you guys are collecting, i really dont know what is going on but this is by far the most disrupted website ive ever visited.

its almost become a joke to be honest.
 

especially in these few months...

I don't know. Most disrupted in terms of
1) Downtime
2) Too many maintenance ???
3) or ??

Had been with Clubsnap since the day it started and all these years, the admin pple have been constantly trying to make this portal to be as pleasant to all.
Moreover, the size of the community keep on increasing and the previous hardware, software need to be upgraded to cope with immense crowd coming in thus I believe all these upgrading are neccessary.
The admin have their full-time job, etc
please spare a thought for them.....

Don't demand what they can do for you, ask whether what u can do to the community.

recently cs having more problem than usual, like right now cannot acess gallery. this week i think already 2 times (include now).

Wow. Totally flabbergasted when I saw this comment.

First of all, "all the money you guys are collecting" doesn't come close to covering the costs of maintaining the site on an annual basis - some months we cover, some months we don't, and over the long term, ClubSNAP is still funded out of our own pockets (and also our time and sleepless nights when issues crop up)

We acknowledge that there has been some problems with the servers, especially during the peak hours of 10pm-1am and we sincerely apologise if that has inconvenienced members.

There are usually 2x the number of users online compared to the daytime hours and it has been a challenge to be able to anticipate peak demand and to ensure that the servers are performing adequately.

As with all software/hardware combinations, there are always several factors to consider when making changes or tweaks, and we have taken a more cautious approach to fixes as there is a lot more at stake now.

At the end of the day, we take solace that, although we do not expect outpourings of gratitude and garlands of flowers placed at our feet, we feel proud that we are doing our best to maintain this community that brings together photographers.

We strive to please most of the people most of the time, we will not even comtemplate trying to please all the people all the time.

and u ppl can't even put up with these minor problems?

CS is by far the most popular fotography website in Singapore.

if u ppl think u can do beta, by all means, start ur own forum. we might just be tempted to join.

Pay member didn't complain, but free member come and make use of the forum facility and yet to complain, is that a joke??? :confused:

agreed. that's why i joined now, after my friend told me abt this wonderful site for photography
 

let's try to be understanding... i honestly doubt that they're raking in the dough from a few puny subscriptions and ads. more to defray the increasing costs of maintaining this site.

Maybe CS should start considering paid memberships? Maybe charge a modest amount of $10/yr for membership? :think:

This may help to reduce the number of ghost/duplicate accounts & spammers, as well as go towards the hardware maintainence.

I know there's potentially a lot of work associated with such a move but that could be unavoidable as the number of users grow.
Just my 2cents. :cool:

erm... $10... not a bad idea... can stop those irratiting spam advertisement and get $ from member for maintainence/upgrade + affordable to all if not most. :sweat: even a primary student should be able to afford $10 per yr. :thumbsup:

I think you have a serious misconception with the revenue this site generates, compared with the resources it takes to keep such a server/bandwidth/etc going.

Agree, what did the TS do to CS in the past 6 months since he joined? Keep taking without giving back and yet still complain?

Even for subscribed forum, customers are not always right. Customer is always right only if the request is reasonable!
