Hi guys,

Starting a common thread for an IR outing AlexK, limwhow and myself had at Fort Canning this afternoon. C&C most welcome as we are still noobs at IR.... well at least I am :-P

Light wasn't ideal as it was cloudy and drizzled for most parts so contrast sucks. Still, why waste the effort going there eh?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Good try!

It would be prefect if the weather was sunny.

Btw, the photogs were shot with your converted cams using ELP or R72?
It is becoz ELP will give golden-yellow foliage, and R72 will give white foliage when channel-swapped in PP.

Keep it up!

Best of regards :)

Thanks the compliments mate :)....yeah we went too late...it looked nice and bright at abt noon then weather turned for the worse :mad2:

I shot with a converted D60 using R72, channel swapped in CS4. Played with hue and saturation a bit to get some colors into the foliage.

Wah ! You so fast. I just downloaded and playing around with photos.
I like #1 but I prefer to crop away the wall. Anyway, just me ;)

Great colours, vngks!
You are right. A sunny noon became cloudy and rainy... not the best day for IR.
My Hoya R72 modded camera seems to derive lesser visible light (and thus visible colours) as compared with vngks and AlexK's cameras.
Therefore my hue differentiation is not as dynamic.

But still, I managed to squeeze some colours out of them.
Here below, just did channel swaps, Auto level, and adjustment of hues and saturations.

Here, just managed to catch some colours from the human subjects' clothing.
Did channel swap, and hue/saturation to emphasize the colours.
Pardon me for the unusual colours...

Please forgive me - I am not familiar with the PP of IR's.
These colours are indeed very saturated.
I am slowly going to learn to do it better.

Very nice!!!

Hello, SK1968.
Thank you so much for your thumbs up!
I personally find that IR photography requires experience to know exactly under what lighting situation will we be able to obtain certain colour hues...
... experience that I unfortunately is sorely deficient in... haha...

vngks, AlexK....
Keke... sorry sorry I posted so many.
Here is just a montage of one which I did several versions...
...Autumn... Early winter... and Winter.... (haha, don't know real one or not... let people laugh only lah...)

You guys are learning fast. I'm still fiddling with the colours swaps, levels, etc. Need to shoot and practice more.

Vngks #1

Limwhow #1 works for me... very nice colors!

Wurdelak, thanks so much, brother!
Wah lau... you don't know how I sweat to squeeze even that little bit of colour out of my IR pictures!
My this Hoya R72 is really quite strict with its admittance of visible lights...
which makes me wonder if I should start to do Custom WB for every scene before I start shooting.... maybe that would allow me more colours, what do you think?

am actually doing that, i customize my white balance for every scene... in the street shot of 2 ladies in my IR thread, i used my palm as a custom white balance...

Hi limwhow,

you are catching up fast!

IMO, you don't have to do CWB for every scene before you shoot. Just that you need good sunlight, and play around with your cam's exposure and adjust the EV. After your shot, view it on your cam's LCD and judge for yourself whether it is good IR shot, and if not re-try again on the spot with different exposure and EV.

And lastly, PP according to what you like. No fixed rule in PP.

Cheers and keep it up :)

Hey, you know something?
What you say here makes lots of sense - about playing around with the exposure and adjusting the EV.
Because one of us today actually did adjust the EV and found that the colour actually differs....
... another mind-blowing phenomenon...

The extreme right image is nice. I like the conversion. The other two doesn't have as much depth.
