Below 70 is considered very cheap for tripods. You can look at weifeng aka fancier tripods, they fit your budget and are rather decent.

Wah, $70 for a tripod and ball head???? You won't get a very good one leh.
Even if you find one, I think you will regret. Cause it won't be stable.

Around $400 to $500...

That's a pretty good budget and since you want it light, you can consider carbon fibre tripods. Have a look at Sirui, Giottos and Manfrotto tripods, choose the tripod according to the height you prefer and the weight of your heaviest setup.

erm.. i'm look for a tripod too, is $150 an ok budget?

I have seen a few Sirui T1004x with G10 ballhead going at that price in the B&S, maybe you can keep a lookout. The tripod is rather short though, you can check it out in the shops first.

Haven't found anything that meets all/most of the criteria on my 'want' list for <$200 ;)
But yeah, $150 is decent enough especially if it's for the legs only :)

eh.. okie.. i go TK and see see if they have anything decent with legs and ballhead. See if anything comes within or close to my budget..

I told my colleagues that i want to go TK and she asked,"TK? Teh kor (underwear)? LOL

Er... no. For tripod, you want it as high as possible (stability cannot be compromise though). For monopod, then yeah, get one that is your height.

Tripod wise... sometime you would want to take photos at a wierd elevated angle, so you need your camera to be position as hight as possible to shoot downward.

I think if the tripod is up to about chest level, it should be all right. Add in the ballhead, base plate, and camera, and the viewfinder should be about mouth level. That way I can still see the top LCD even when legs are fully extended :)

Up to personal preference too...
