Flowery impressions ~ IR [limwhow]

This is no longer considered taken by a newbie. :)

Just some minor suggestion, for close up shots of flowers, try to stop the down the aperture a bit. This would make the whole flower in focus.

Haha... Yes, Sir.
Very right, fatigue. I would give that a go soon... You know I shoot almost daily now.
All thanks to your great work!

wee how,!! Great series :D can't wait to join you guys. taking delivery my 20D tmr :D (then need to find someone to convert it :D )

Welcome to the "club".

welcome!! u will soon get addicted to it!!

nleong ah, nleong!
This is indeed a fine piece of news!
And I totally agree with what AlexK and takeshi.lum said: you will soon be in deep love with your IR camera.
Nowadays, both SereneXMM and I spent almost all our time on the old, rusty, run-down, pre-owned 20Ds' than our other so-called more advanced and more expensive cameras.
Sounds so stupidly crazy, right?

#15 . . . Today noon I left office a little earlier. Too tired and never slept enough due to CS-ing lor...
Left SereneXMM in the office working her a$$ off. Hehehe...
I go shoot IR cos it's a bright sunny day.
Saw my neighbour's bright pink Hibiscus.... nice.
Here, I changed the magenta of the hibiscus to pink.
I tuned the magenta of the background leaves to green.
And I desaturate the blue of the background leaves to keep them white.

Thank you takeshi.lum!
Yes, I have learned that I must sort of underexposed just slightly in order to maintain the details of the flowers and leaves.
So nowadays when I chimp the histogram on the LCD right after a shot, I would make sure it is at least a few knots away from the right end.

#16 . . . White Frangipani. Outside the house opposite stands a big Frangipani tree.
Recently I have been looking at it and certainly what struck me was the white-ness of the flowers.
In this picture I found predominantly blue in the leaves, the flower after channel swapping, and in the sky, a mixture of blue and cyan.
So I adjusted the blue of the leaves to a light yellowish-green. Kept the Frangipani flowers white. And darkened and saturated the blue and cyan in the sky.
The little bit of magenta in the central portion I deepened it to dark red. (sorry forgot to spot heal the speck in the sky due to the bubble in my filter...)

It is at this stage when I finally asked myself:
"What on Earth am I doing? If I do this, it's as good as taking a normal coloured photo? I might as well go and shoot with my normal camera!"
So right.... sigh....
But my only answer to myself is, it's just me.
If I don't go through this stage of IR PP and play play play with the colours, even if in the process of doing so, I made the picture a 'normal' one, I will buay gam guan (not satisfied).
One day when I have done enough of colouring, then I will guai guai go back to proper, traditional IR photos.
Maybe...

Woohoo, WOW, SWEE!:bigeyes::thumbsup:

#16 - the deep red stands out and is a nice detail to focus on.

bro, i think i saw some dust spots on #16. those spots stands out close to the left border.

overall, its still a nice picture!

takeshi.lum, you are right.
That is, unfortunately, the unremovable bubble on my Hoya R72 filter.
fatigue has already told me it is inherent in the piece of filter.
I just have to live with it and remember to spot heal it off.
This time round I forgot.
Thanks for reminding me.... And sharp eyes you have there!

Ahh... that is another very good point.
I didn't think of that.
Although those are naturally occuring spots on the leaves, but I certainly agree that cleaner leaves would make a better picture.
Thanks again for that important piece of advice!

#17 . . . UFO ~ Unidentified Floral Object.
Haha... the fault is all mine, for not being knowledgeable enough to identify this flower.
I did channel-swap and brought up the magenta to the centre-right part of the flower,
and gave the remaining blue area more of the blue tint.
No masking done. The edge burned in a little to bring up the flowers.
