FL-600R - Owner Review and Comments

I got mine at S$393+GST over at Cathay last Sept...

I like the flash, it's fast, silent, and consistent.

I wish they use the standard 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 etc in Manual mode instead of Gn...

Also wished the the zoom head can go beyond 42mm... Most C/N flashes zoom out to 105-200mm equivalent and it'll surely increase the flash distance and shape control of the FL600...

The LED light is almost useless though.

You can change to relative power display (1/1, 1/2, 1/4, etc) in the setup menu. Just press and hold the "OK" button for 2 secs to enter setup menu and scroll through to the desired settings. You can also change the LED power from there.

Any idea if buy fl600r from hong kong, got international warranty or not?

Hi, I'm a new user here to CS and recently moved as a long time DSLR user to the OM-D. Lens include 25 f1.4, Panny 12-35 &35-100 f2.8. Recently I bought the FL-600 flash and must say I'm impressed by this small but versatile power pack unit.

One major gripe I have with the Flash is that the contact between the flash and camera is often lost whenever i lock the flash. I've tried to push flash in but to no avail the contact link seems to be lost and I lose TTL capability, link reinitiated only when the flash is unlocked.

I'm wondering if this is a design flaw or just the unlucky receipient of a faulty unit. Any other users experience the same issue? Other than that, no issues at all and the flash works brilliantly.

I've haven't to encounter this problem with mine. Could it be due to oxidation of the contacts? Can try cleaning the metal contacts with a very small dab of contact cleaner on tissue.

thanks and I'll try it next few days. However I bought the flash just 2 months back and the contacts look pristine to me. I've checked and a number of users at DPpreview have highlighted the same problem, so it could be a design flaw. I have no issue with the contact when the flash is not locked. But when I try to lock it, loses the link to the om-d, frustrating...I will likely bring it back to the Oly service center this weekend.

Ah, I see. I wasn't aware that it's an issue reported by others, too. Then it's likely a manufacturing or design problem.

perhaps is the locking mechanism issue. when u try to lock it, it might push the flash upwards.

You're quite close!

I sent my flash in last Friday and collected it today. The service center guy told me that they replaced the locking mechanism but didn't elaborate further. Perhaps its just dumb luck that I had the bad unit but if the worst is just two trips and some lost time, so be it. Glad to have the flash back!

It's now $50 off in the USA. $249 + shipping, something like S$370?

I bought FL600R few months ago in JB, RM900.

But not everything cheap there.

Asking my us friend to hoot at us$249, wonder physical shops have or not

Any shops in san francisco selling at $249?

I guess the flash cannot be use on the Pana GH3?? :embrass:

Sure can. Why cannot? Panny licensed the flash protocols from oly. All oly flashes work on panny

Don't think anybody posted anything related to how well the LED light works for indoors videography, any kind souls with the flash able to share their evaluation in this area? like what is the effective working distance under varying LED power intensity, if the led flash is tad blinding considering where the flash is mounted, and how 'cumbersome' is it to change the LED intensity on the fly, especially when in the perspective of doing event coverage (assuming switching from regular shooting with flash then to turn on the LED for videography, and as well as changing LED intensity)
